By a friggin skunk!
yea, i heard the fence rustling around and my dogs barking, i go outside and see a skunk running down the driveway.I notice my dog brandy has a big yellow stain on her chest, and as soon as i get about 10 feet of her....she smells like CRAP! so, if i bathe her in tomato juice or sauce(or whatever it is) will it make it go away? and should i just shave off all the fur on her chest? |

From mythbusters: http://kwc.org/mythbusters/2004/09/mythbusters_solar_death_ray_sk.html Removing skunk odor with...: * Tomato juice: plausible * Beer (MGD): busted * Douche: busted * Hydrogen peroxide + baking soda + liquid dish soap: confirmed * Commercial skunk remover: confirmed (not as good as custom mix above) A mixture of soap, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda proved to work best for actually eliminating the aroma of skunk musk. |

Oddly enough, I just saw the MythBusters episode on this subject yesterday. They said tomato juice merely masks some of the scent, but does not neutralize it. |

* Hydrogen peroxide + baking soda + liquid dish soap: confirmed
That mix helps but it's awfull for the dogs skin & coat Call your vet... In Canada, there is a product called skunk'd works wonders. Although you will still smell it on your dog 12 months from now when she gets wet.... Yea happens alot up here |

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide
¼ cup baking soda 1 teaspoon of strong liquid soap such as dishwashing detergent. Mix the ingredients in an open bucket or bowl. The mixture will fizz. Wet your dog and thoroughly massage the solution into the coat. Be sure to keep the mixture out of the dogs eyes, nose and mouth. If it is necessary to apply it to the dogs face, very carefully use a washcloth or a sponge. After applying the mixture to all parts of your dog that may have been sprayed, rinse the dog thoroughly. just googled this seems ya better do it pretty quick and only wash the area he got sprayed first then go back you will need to take precautions as well for that stuff will spread everywhere here is the site to read hope this helps.......... http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/skunk.htm |

Remember, the primary goal is to remove the odor, then over time, you can condition and restore the dog's coat. |

I and my friends always use Febreeze
it works miraculously at neutralizing skunk odor |

|
We used a gallon of water, 1/2 quart of peroxide, 1/2 cup of baking soda and DAWN dish soap, the vet emphasized using DAWN as it dissolves the fat/grease better.
I have used this more than twice on my dog. And it works wonderfully |
