yes it is,either go to the Virus warning thread below in this forum or i will try to post relevant posts.
im not a techie tho,sooo.

Solution = Format Windows partition -> Install Linux -> Presto!;

If you get Ubuntu, has firefox browser pre-installed and also transmission(bit-torrent). You will notice no decreased functionality, only much rejoicing.

Yeah, even if you don't abandon windows, it just makes good sense to always have a linux live CD on hand to help you through these situations. With a linux live CD, when things like this happen you can switch directly over to using linux, still access your data on your hard drive, and fix your windows BS at your leisure.

from what i understand, and im Not a techie, you can download the linux, set it up and Then Burn a linux cd,as kinda like a boot disc..?

they say you just partition off your hd,and install the linux into that.

also, linux is free, whereas windows is not.
i used to use Firefox as a browser on one of my old pc-s,and it really worked well,so maybe this linux isnt a bad idea.

Yes!

You can actually run the entire operating system off a CD, that means nothing gets changed on your pc whatsoever, just your PC boots up from the CD.

The drawback that it's slow running the system off a cd.

Everyone who never used Linux before, I recommend to try it by running off the CD first and not installing it, so you get a taste of it.

You also have to consider, that your windows-microsoft programs will not be compatible with Linux, that means, Photoshop and MS word and so on, but Linux has their free alternatives for that, you can download free.

Also some hardware will not be compatible, (some printers and webcams) especially very old ones.

here is the easiest most user friendly linux out there:
http://www.ubuntu.com/

If you are complete beginner, you might want to read most of the stuff before you install it.

Also, once it's really installed (placed on your hard drive), during the boot up process, you will have the choice to select whether you want to run Linux or Windows, since your hard drive will be partitioned.

If you don't know what a partition is, again, you might want to learn more about partitioning and installing and so on, I don't really recommend for people with zero knowledge to install an operating system on their own..because if you screw up, you gonna end up ruining all your saved stuff on your hard drive.

Do a backup first! Save all your picture, documents and stuff somewhere off the hard drive, like a DVD or an external hard drive so in case you end up wiping out your entire hard drive, you won't come crying that you screwed up and everything is lost.

"windows unit" ... what doest that mean?

Do you mean, "can I convert my computer from running
M$ Windows to running a Linux distro operating system?

If my last paragraph answers "yes", then "yes", it's
very easily done. What type of machine are you running?
Laptop? Desktop? Can you give us more info on it?
