No... I don't plan on taking anything besides what they tell me to... I am already freaked about about taking this... let alone anything else!

i have never taken any but several close friends have. they do wonders for some but have wacky side effects for others. you definitely want to educate yourself about the side effects and be prepared to recognize them if they occur - also it seems that it sometimes takes being on them a while for them to have the right effect and if you need to discontinue them it takes a while to wean off them.
but absolutely worth trying if you have a mild depression problem just educate yourself - (as you are doing now) - plus the wiki and there is also another mingle thread in the help area...just a sec and i will hook you up... ok - here you go. ask away!! http://mingle2.com/topic/show/177298 |

I am well aware of meds and side effects... but when it comes to taking them yourself.. it's a whole other thing. I will be taking the meds in the morning. |

oh - didn't realize!
well try not to be overly concerned. you are well informed and they can be very helpful! |

OP-since you probably don't spend much time outside, you may have a vitamin D deficiency. This can be fixed with a supplement of vitamin D from the health food store. I would avoid meds if I were you, but I won't tell you how to live your life.

I was Paxcilated for a number of years. Being medicated taught me that I could respond differently to situations, maintain my cool, not be so grouchy, lighten up. Yes it was for depression. I even doubled up on the dosage when my brother passed, no problems. It really helped for a long time.
Then someone said. You only live one time, don't you want to at least be awake? Weaned myself off.....even when I went through the divorce, I was able to stay off medication. I do take a B megadose vit. and it has really helped me, esp. in the winter!!! |

Tanya...have you ever tried taking St John's Wort??
I used to go through mild bouts of depression and I absolutely hate the very idea of taking drugs. Hell..I don't even take aspirin unless I REALLY need to. Someone suggested that I try the St John's Wort and it really does work. At least for me it did. Might be worth a try before resorting to a prescription. |

Not me personally, but I have two family members that have used Wellbutrin for Seasonal Affect Disorder, which seems to be common this time of year. I call it the Winter doldrums. It's freezing frickin' cold, little sunlight, and all I want to do is stay inside, eat and sleep. Personally, I think inactivity breeds depression, but seems to effect people to different degrees. For me, just forcing myself to run outside, or even go to the gym, helps. Not enough for everyone, tho. This is a little more than just wanting to stay inside and sleep and eat. Actually, I have been paying attention. I haven't been eating as much as before. (FYI, the natural endorphines that you create from running... if you do it consistantly... once you stop... you might have depressive symptoms) I don't plan on stopping, anyway. |

I hated winter, probably had SAD, until I took up cross-country skiing. Now, winter's great as long as there's snow, and I don't like hot weather anyway.

I was in the best shape of my life when I was diagnosed with depression. Live in sunny California, ran 5 miles 4 times a week, ate healthy, didn't smoke.....all the right things. But, none of that saved me from needing antidepressants. They are not "happy pills". They are medicine that can correct an imbalance in your brain hormones. If you have the imbalance, you have the imbalance. There are natural remedies that can do the same thing and they work for some people. Others have to use the prescription. Not because they are "worse" or "sicker" but because everyone responds to different treatments in different ways. There's no shame in taking antidepressants if you need them. It is a shame if you ignore the problem and treat yourself and everyone around you like crap because you feel like ****.
