I'm a mean mean mom! I got the "you're ruining my life" and stomp off scene tonight OMG this whole "tween" thing is waaayyyy over rated
So my daughter is 11, she'll be 12 in a month. Her friend is 13 and her older brother plays in a punk screamo band. My daughter wanted to go to one of his concerts in downtown chicago with her friend and her friend's parents. At first I'm like hell no. I actually considered it for a while but then her behavior lately has been ridiculous! So now tonight I told her, no way are you going. |

Did she call you "Little Eichman" at least? |

Maybe if you sit her down and explain to her why you decided it was a bad idea for her to go? Maybe share some life experience?
My parents did shelter me pretty badly, but they always told me why- and while sometimes I end up upsetting them with my freakish ways I'm mostly glad they did. They've saved me from a lot of really stupid things. She'll eventually (maybe) regret acting like a brat once you've told her the reasons behind your decisions. |

Aaaaah the joys of parenting!
Mine's a teenage boy and I got the "I hate you" tantrum tonight 'cause he lost Xbox usage for failing to keep his end of a bargain. He vented, I held my ground, he threatened to leave so I'd worry if he was alive or dead, and I said "Go ahead, you won't be playing Xbox outside tonight in the cold either". He's in bed now. Kids! Gotta love 'em though! Hang in there Mom. |

He's twenty ...for some reason ever since they started saying that he's bound and determined to stick around out of spite... |

It is good that you stood your ground, if you had given in then that would have shown inconsistency, once you had given in then the show would have been hers. The reward for bad behaviour should be loss of privileges.

As it happens I do have to repeat over 1000 times, I work in a school with 1200 children, our team is responsible for behaviour and for meeting out suitable sanctions when the children misbehave. |

lol, don't feel alone, and definitely be greatful she waited until now to pull the act. My son is 9 and he has been doing it for almost a year now (good ole mommy taught him how). Just last night in fact, he told me he hated me and thought I was so mean to ground him to his bed until he decided to tell me the truth concerning his having snuck a soda. The whole thing started two days ago when I noticed two sodas missing. I found the one and he fessed up to that one, but kept trying to insist his brother took the other one, when his brother had been with me the entire time involved. I lost my patience with his lying yesterday, and finally told him to go to his bed until he can tell me the truth.

Did you explain that one of the reasons for your decision is because of her recent behavior? That might help in thwarting her lash-back. BTW - just wait till she gets to be an older teen :) |
