I turned my son into the security guard at the door and let him take my son into the holding room and all that.

He was about 6-8.

It didn't work for my son. He kept stealing.

IMO I think you did the right thing.

If it were me...I'd start with making my son take it back and apologize. Then if that didn't work..I'd go the manager route. Next step security. If nothing helped...THEN call the cops.

But that is just me. I try to go in steps....keeps me organized laugh

I am sorry to hear that..more proof that discipline is not a one size fits all thing. Different things work for different children. Some children, all an elder has to do is look at them and they straighten up. Others, you can look at them all you want and they will still curse you out. Noone ever said parenting was easy(if they did,,,they are either very blessed or very good liars)

The police got involved before I could act on that one. Now you have to know that my son first ditched school in kindergarten so he was a problem from an early age.

He got a shoplifting ticket maybe last year??? He is 26 now so he just refuses to stop. The only up side now is whatever trouble he gets into, he has to go to court by himself and pay fines and stuff on his own now.

I tried everything for him. He was in all kinds of different programs, 24 hour counseling, etc... He is just hard headed.
