FAST FACTS:

Four year old boy found wandering in the street, drinking a beer, and wearing a dress.
Mother says he wanted to get arrested to visit his dad in jail
DCS says boy will be returned to mother's custody.

(Chattanooga, TN 12/18/09)

A four-year-old boy who was found wandering the street with a beer in his hand in the middle of the night was apparently trying to get arrested. He was also wearing a dress that he stole from a neighbors house. The boy's mother says he was hoping police would take him to jail, so he could see his dad.

Little Hayden Wright got out of the house and broke into a neighbor's home and stole some christmas presents, including the dress he was wearing when he was found. He went to another neighbor's home where he stole a beer from the cooler in the back yard.

Hayden's mother says she woke up in the middle of the night and was horrified to find out that her son was not there. She says she tried to child proof the house and even put special covers on the door knobs to keep Hayden from running away. He apparently figured out how to break one of those covers and get out. Child Protective Services got involved and say Hayden will be returned to his mother's custody.

Wondering who put this idea in this child's head? Or do you think he thought of this all on his own?

Kids will do crazy things when they want something. I can see this really happening if he knew his dad was in jail (especially if it was for stealing something) and that the police were the ones who took his dad to jail. Kids can put 2 and 2 together. They can be very logical at times, although their logic and ours aren't always the same. I can see both of my girls doing something similar at that age.

But four years old... No.. there is some prompting or some kind of conversation going around him that shouldn't be.

The logic and thinking it one thing...... but to enter and steal at a neighbor's house and open a beer and drink it... something definately not right here!

He is 4 yrs old, to get out of the house, enter his neighbors house, steal gifts, don a stolen dress, enter another neighbors yard and take a beer, trying to get arrested. I doubt that this came from a 4 yr old without coaching. jmo

What a shame. It's not even safe to keep an open beer cooler in the back yard any more. DANG! drinker
