Topic: What is MIND?

People are always referring to THE MIND as if it were one thing or one concept.

But others insist that "a mind" is just a brain and everyone has a separate mind which arises from the brain.

If a mind is "just a brain," then what do they mean when they talk about "THE MIND?"

I agree with scientist who first discovered Quantum Physics:

"All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force... We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent Mind. This Mind is the matrix of all matter." - Max Planck

Interesting, as we all have minds, as we all have brains.
Both in word form,,,they could be seen as one..
To say The Mind,,,,as to its internal Workings,,,there would be
as great a number of reasons to how it works, in one.
As to how great a number it doesn't in someone else.
For if you had a mind to use your brain, that brain would not have my mind.
Something along THAT line,,,maybe???lol

The male 'mind' is whatever his gf/wife says to do. Since a body is only meant to have only ONE mind and cannot be shared, that is why females can't make theirs up!

I've never heard anyone say that "a mind is just a brain". I have heard many people say that the mind arises from the actions of the brain, and from nowhere else.

I don't have a single, clear, specific notion of 'what mind is' most of the time, when I refer to mind - I deliberately use the term to 'sweep complexity under the carpet' while commenting on related ideas that don't require an investigation into that complexity. Personally, I don't accept the idea that (what I vaguely think of as) 'mind' is directly and only a result of the brain's activity - the entire endocrine system (distributed throughout the body) plays a role in my mind, as well as my entire nervous system (esp. the large amount of it which is interwoven with the digestive system) plays a role. I am open (do not 'believe', but am not 'opposed') to the idea that every cell in the body may contribute to the 'mind'.

As for what 'mind' is.... it has something to do with integrating and expressing all of my experience, my feelings, my thoughts, my memories; it might be some of that list, or it might just be the effect of all that, or the cause...

Motion is not a ball. A ball may roll and create motion... but what is 'motion' really? If motion is not a ball, what do you mean when you talk about motion?

I can point to a ball. I can direct attention to the manifestation of motion. But motion is not a thing - I can not point to a thing and say 'that is motion'.

I wonder if you can have a mind independent from a brain

I guess we'll all find out one day

too bad we can never tell anyone about it

If you ever get close to a human
And human behaviour
Be ready to get confused
There's definitely no logic
To human behaviour
But yet so irristible
There's no map
To human behaviour
They're terribly moody
Then all of a sudden turn happy
But, oh, to get involved in the exchange
Of human emotions is ever so satisfying
There's no map
And a compass
Wouldn't help at all
Human behaviour

A mind is a field of thought and energy.
