This thread started with a question on drinking. As I was reading other peoples answers.I look at it this way.Anything done excessive, is going to affect your life. And may affect others around you,not only can you cause harm to yourself.

Using common sences would solve the problem..right? Thats something that the media doesn't focus enough on.Always just a blurb at the end of the advertisement. And now common sence is not something you can just buy off the shelf.

In some cultures alcohol is not allowed.

And there are a large number of people that do drink in moderation, and drink responsibly. I was never one of those people, and had to learn that the hard way. As a result of those lessons I refrain from all mind altering substances.

Hey I guess if you arn't mature enough to handle it's effects then don't do it. Personally I run my life, not the alcohol I drink. But i'm still going to go and blow off steam whenever I need to by getting buzzed and relaxing with my friends.

Most people are too thick to understand that usually alcohol isn't the problem, it's the person that drinks it.

I've had friends get in wrecks with drunk drivers and while being drunk ... and every time people equate it to the alcohol. But the person decided to get in the car, and decided drink way to much (drink at all really) before hand.

i've been around alcohol all my life and it's not the path i will ever go down.all the drinkers i've been around were alcoholics.personally i'm sick of it.tired of seeing it advertised on tv as if it's a good thing, tired of seeing it advertised in the stores, tired of hearing about people getting killed due to drunk drivers

but yet,no lets keep saleing it grumble

Yeah maybe we should stop sales of hamburgers, cell phones, beef products, soda, geez the list is way too long what the hell lets just make it illegal to leave the house! rofl Oh don't forget sex we need to outlaw that too!

cell phones maybe.the rest of those don't cause innocent people to die because one dumb@$$ thinks he's being cool by not having a brain.i've seen the effects of alcohol all my life.i've had loved ones that have been killed by drunk drivers.my uncle was an alcoholic,he done so much damage to his body,he can't even hold his bladder now

well cant help what other people have done or your uncle but people did those things not alcohol! Sounds like you have some emotions due to how you where raised that have you biased. you have to forgive people and then maybe you won't hold irrational feelings toward other innocent people who drink.

yes you are the "rule" and not the "exception" too! I love to drink beer and have drank for twenty years. I am very healthy, never had a DUI, and I love my beer and will enjoy it till I die! Some people are just prudes and judge others for it! It is irritating because it's in my own family. My sister hates drinking and when we have get togethers there is always alcohol around and she hates it! She always bitatches about it, her poor man gets in trouble if he hangs out with the "drinkers". lol..... some people are just so uptight and prudish they take all the fun out of things! When there are get togethers at her house she is always sure to point out no alcohol allowed, so i bring a twelve pack and make her kick me out! If she didn't make such a point of no alcohol i just wouldn't drink at her functions but you know in her opinion anyone who enjoys drinking regularly is an alcoholic. "bullcrap"! So now she makes sure everything is a kid function lol.... i guess she won i stopped bringing beer. but her functions last about two hours before everyone cuts out and few people show up. Mine half the neighborhood end up over there and they last all night long! Damn...why do some people just refuse to have fun? I mean not all people drink but you dont have to hate on others who do!

I'm not against people who have a drink,it's when they get trashed and think thats when they are having a good time....hmm something wrong with that picture, that you can't have a good time with out drinking, and or have to getting trashed.
I drink, or have a few drinks(meaning 2 not 5,6,7,8), when having to drive, never.

Ummm Ron? I'd check the statistics and maybe the AA 6 question quiz?
I'm not judging you or anything... In fact I use to think like that
25 friggin years ago???

Your father drank all his life... Think his actions and behaviour might have affected your sister some???

Drinkers are oblivious to the damages done to others... educate yourself!

Well, it doesn't have to be a "hobby"...lots of other interesting pursuits....and other than a friend of mine who is a brewmaster in Germany, can;t think of too many who have or should make it a "career," Like most things, it can be used or abused. I enjoy wine mostly. happy

Designate a Driver. A drunk driver is responsible for ending my nephews four year old life. Obey the law.

Eh drinking seven or eight beers can be equal to someone who doesn't drink having two. Its all relative to tolerence. I could look like an alcoholic to you by drinking six beers and you might be more affected than I. It's wonderful.

To be an alcoholic is basically not being able to stop ... needing it ... as in a dependance.

Drinkers are not oblivious to the people around them. Alcoholics looking for a fix are oblivious. Drinkers are quite aware of the people around them. Or at least I am.

As I stated before I'm not against drinking, you failed to get that point, as well as understanding a reason you have to get trashed to feel your having a good time...

well if your not judging me then why did you judge me lol.... yeah some people can not handle alcohol. Some in my family and thats why my sis don't like it. I understand and when certain people are around i tell my sis okay i wont drink sis. i was kinda kidding about bringing the twelve pack. but my sis took the drinking of others and decided to go one way and i went another. I am quite well educated thank you and i know what the books say about alcoholism and they are well opinionated in thier opinions. I myself enjoy drinking and if people don't like it too friggin bad! I don't hurt other people with it, i am a good father and it has never caused any problem for me. Some people just cant except this because they have no will power they assume others dont. thats their problem! Why should i take a six question quiz? lol.... i drink to get a buzz and i enjoy the relaxation of it after a hard days work. so if thats an alcoholic and it brings me happiness and a long life full of enjoyment why is it wrong? just mind your own business i think is appropriate! damn busy bodies!

While you have your own thoughts of about drinkers...you are still so young to know what alcohol does to people in the long run. Yes, people can have a drink and leave...but the ones that can't are the ones we are refering to, and there are far more of them the the other.
I don'rt quite understand your reference between 'drinkers' and and 'alcoholics'.
No one intenionally becomes a addict, to anything. No one says "I think I'll start drinking and ruin my life". All who imbibe seriously, daily or whatever- yes their thinking is the first to go...wheather they beleive it or not. And most don't...they think they are in control at all times, and think that their behavior is/was appropriate at all times while imbibing. Many opportunities are lost, relationships ruined by someone saying things that they think are funny and they're not. Try a experiemnt. Go to a party or a bar and sit there, don't drink anything alcoholic and watch the fun. Stay for at least 3 hours and converse with the drinkers.
You may gain some insight to what the rest of us are talking about by age, knowledge and experience. And the louder one protests, I really do wonder why are you defending so vehemently? Something is really striking a nerve with you also. Just saying 'I've been drinking everyday' and 'I've not had a problem'...hmm. yet. If you're thinking that you're fine and getting behind the wheel, theres a problem- a big one.

I would just like to add, that I'm not talking about a glass of wine with your meal.I'm talking about BEER.In my "Real Life experince, anybody who drinks BEER is workin' on a buzz,I'm sure there's exceptions ,but lets face it not many, and that's the bottom line

You've never had a beer because you liked it? A beer or two with dinner is not going to give you much of a buzz. So, what do you think about people who drink one or two?
