i guess i'll start out by being honest: i cant stand the radio these days.. i havent heard a new pop song worth listening to in years. possibly because deep down, its all just the same song with different lyrics.

does anyone else share my philosophy?

No. No one shares your philosophy.

If you get satellite radio, you'll never have to hear top 40 again.

Some one shares his philosophy....I'm 61 years old and I remember my father saying the same thing in the 1960's. He and my father would share that philosophy.

Music today sucks. If you listen to rock its all about anger and self distruction. If you listen to country is all beer and lost love. If you like rap its all bling and hoes. Not worth buying cds anymore. No wonder people down load it, no one has the nerve to suffer threw a whole cd to hear the songs they like.

Hehe.

Really? Did nobody find the inherent irony in my playful statement?

Philosophy is a personal endeavor. Sharing an endeavor that is specifically singular is a natural contradiction.

I'm not trying to jack his thread.

Can't we just have a bit of fun on these forums?

Loneliness and misunderstanding is not the end of the world... though, combined, they could be.

It's really hard to find good music nowadays...I usually recommend people to search outside their usual perimeter. If you ever just mess around on youtube and if you're out to look for new songs, go for the ones that are popular for some reason and you don't know about, because it's from a different country or something that the radio doesn't play. I also browse oldies and 70s, 80s..and many times I find real gems I haven't heard before.

I quit listening to "radio" when I got out of it 4 years ago! I was a radio announcer for 20 years & at first it was fun! But towards the end of my career, all the music talked about was who was doing to who, how many times they were doing it, and wgat they were wearing! I was so glad when the station I was working at changed formats!!! from ttop 40 to an oldies style. There were quite a few people that got a petition going to get mwe & another co-worker fired because we told them we threw all that "crap" out the window & set a big bonfire out back & toasted marshmallows & hot dogs!!! It was so good to play "real" music and not anymore of that garbage!! One co-worker even had an Isaac Hayes Hour to see how many songs by him that would be played? It was usually 5?? I myself had a "Soul Food Sunday Night" where I would feature soul music from the 50's & 60's!! REAL RECORDINGS!!! That was really Cool!!! There is more I could talk about, but I'll save that for another time? CHRIS

my dad says the sign of being old is when you start complaining about the kids these days

I listen to some of the new music. I'm currently in a "Cage the Elephant" kick. those kids are really talented and their stuff makes me laugh

and some of the new music is junk. Some of em come up with one cool guitar riff and base their entire song on that. that stuff gets pretty old to me

My pops told me that you die when you give up.

I poetically rephrased it.

"Men die one of two ways... they commit suicide or work themselves to death."

Since we are talking "Pop" music here, and not rock, this is an easy one to answer. Pop music flat out has zero inspiration behind it. None. Nada. Zip.

I remember back in 2000 when U2 was about to release "All That You Can't Leave Behind", Bono said that he was not happy with how pop music was taking over the airwaves. You have to remember that back then, artists like N'SYNC, Brittney Spears, Backstreet Boys, were dominating the radio. Basically, Pop music took over in 1997, and it and R & B dominate radio airways to this day. Neither of these genres is cutting edge, or requires much thought to do. If you have a good voice, and are sexy, you can sell music. If you have an awesome voice, but not so sexy, we can still sell your music.

And don't even get me started on rap. That music lacks any creativity. Rap is all about the beat though. Doesn't really matter that the lyrics are normally, "Yo biatch...suck my balls!". As long as the beat is good, it'll sell.
