The Acid Lake
Outside my window Glistens with Man’s disgusted perversity All for Time Children sit on its shores Waiting As toxic fumes Settle their way. My mother warns me: ‘Don’t go in the lake! You’re bound to disappear Into mankind’s hate!’ Good child I am I wander its shores Watching the adults Swim both to and fro What lies inside The Acid Lake? I wonder alone to myself each and every day A day there came Where standing at the shore I choose not to heed my mother’s words. It burned of cruelty And broke forth ice cold. How was I to know Of its unspoken scorn? Long while I spent Beating against its waves But Innocence and Purity Soon gave way. So now I rest At it’s lonesome bottom In a small and much unmarked grave. |
