Try changing food choices slowly, so you don't feel deprived.
So, start by switching to boneless skinless chicken. Then a few weeks later, add a different vegetable to the routine. Eat high water/fiber content foods. 'You: The Owners Manual' by Dr. Oz has good suggestions for healthy foods to incorporate into your diet. Celery and Cabbage are negative calorie foods, because it takes more energy to digest it. Good luck! oh, Watch salt content in processed food. |

I suggest you seek support. It makes all the difference. My clients use me for more than the daily workouts, but also for support when they want to cheat.
Start your exercise program first and establish that as habit. Be heart, cholesterol and body healthy first. Then, ingratiate your new lifestyle eating habits. Also allow a "free food" half-day, once a week. You need to feed your cravings or you will cheat for sure and then binge. After your body becomes for efficient, the bad cravings will wane. If you try to start two, new changes at the same time, you will falter on both much sooner. At least, if you cheat with food, you can get to the gym and keep that going. I wish you well! |

The last time I lost a lot of weight a trainer told me not to diet 7 days a week,, give yourself a reward day, that & working out a lot did the trick!

I had a rather nasty bacterial infection back in July, and it was almost impossible for me to eat anything for about a month.
So I ended up losing quite a lot of weight during that time, which was actually not a bad thing, since I had been wanting to do that anyway. I think I would have preferred some other way to go about it, but results are results. I decided that, since it was off, I would keep it off, and have managed to do so relatively easily. On Saturday, I went to the mall with a friend who asked me, "What are you down to now, about 170?" which was nice to hear, although I'm not quite down that far (yet)! |

while i can say from personal experience that losing weight can be hard for one to do in a mental standpoint of view..in a logical point of view its not all that hard. your output must be more than ur input. simple as that. i use to be 5'3 and 180 lbs. ok im a guy and thats short as hell and fat as hell. now im 5'8 and 164 lbs. before u raise to much hell about this know this much....less than four months ago i was 5'8 185 lbs. i just put my foot down and said im going to do this. i increased my output and lowered my input. try to find friends that like to do things such as volleyball. that dont try to hard. the most important thing u must know about working out is to......HAVE FUN. i absolutely HATE to work out. but im lucky enough to have friends that just like to play around with sports. while this makes it fun it allows me to push my self harder and harder to get into better shape while no being judged about what im doing. may or may not help you in ur current situation but thought i would just toss it out there.

if i take a "reward-day" i'll completely screw myself up. my blood-sugar is off...if i can completely kick the sugar-habit, then all cravings completely cease.
i just make the choice. intake drops dramatically, and the work-outs step up as a result. that's what i mostly need...time to work-out to tone what i have. losing weight is a breeze for me. not losing muscle at the same time...that's a bit more challenging. especially because of how sick i was earlier this year. nobody tells you just how many months pertussis kicks your ***...i couldn't raise my heart-rate for many months. now that it's a bit better, i'm hitting the gym at least four times per week. |

It seems like everyone does something different to lose weight. I don't really go on a specific diet. I seem to do well when I just go cold-turkey. I always fail when I try to use a "crutch." I quit smoking the same way (and yes, more than once, but I don't think I will be smoking again). When I want to lose weight I fill the fridge full of grapefruit juice and iced coffee, start exercising more, eat only when I am hungry and watch my fat and sodium consumption. I also cut out all meat and dairy products. I prefer soy milk anyways. In the morning I usually grab a handful of almonds or walnuts and a banana. Granola or oats are supposed to be good for your body in the morning as well. I never have time to make breakfast, so I grab a Quaker Oatmeal bar before I leave the house.
Undoubtedly, a nutritionist would shake their finger at me. I have taken it too far before and lost too much weight (earlier this year). I become kind of gaunt at around 195, and actually hit 190 around Jan. A couple of friends asked if I was on speed, and I started seeing the tendons in my hand, so I started eating more. I've put on about 10 lbs since and look better I think. Your body adjusts to your diet. I would eat less and less because I would become used to how much I was currently eating and wouldn't "feel" hungry as often. |

So where can we find this nasty bacterial infection ?......... . Well, to be honest, I don't think it's the sort of thing most people would enjoy....!! I was on a medication that had THREE PAGES of side effects, some of which were disturbing and probably impossible. But, hey, I did lose a lot of weight. Another 100 pounds and I can be one of those emo kids at the mall. |

I'm an amateur MMA fighter and in April I weighed 250, by the 1st week of May, I drop down to 180 lbs. The key is staying focus, fighting all those unnecessary craving, sticking to low-carb, no sugar diet. Also, make sure you have some type of workout and don't miss any of your workouts.

I have lost 20 pounds in the last 6 months. Which doesn't seem like a lot, but it was good for me since I take meds that make it hard to lose weight.
I try to skip dinner as much as possible. I eat a modest breakfast and then a good size lunch. The less I eat after the 3pm, the better I do with my weight loss goals. Of course, eating a whole pumpkin pie by myself over Thanksgiving weekend didn't help, but it sure tasted good. And, actually, I find that not denying myself too much helps keeps me going. Yeah, it's slow, but at least it's coming off. |

Oh goodie - a thread I can participate in!
OP, my experience is that I'm 6'3" - two years ago I weighted 240 lbs and now I weight 160 lbs. And relax ... I don't look like a skeleton ... LOL ... What I found worked for me was: 1) Pick a low calorie diet that you know you can eat for the rest of your life. The trick in the last sentence is that latter part - most people do a diet that the "force" themselves to do in order to lose weight, and (surprise!) it never works. People fall off the wagon because it is so hard to stay on. What I found was that I have always liked breakfasts and fruit - thus that is my diet; during the day I eat pretzels and fruit (usually tangerines, apples, and bananas), and at night I eat a mushroom and cheese omelet (using no fat no stick spray) and eat low fat wheat toast with no fat spray. 2) Keep in mind that this is a lifestyle change. If you only do something to lose weight, guess what happens when you stop? Yep, you gain the weight back. Personally, I don't exercise that much, but I hear that helps with weight loss. I used to enjoy riding my bicycle to work, but an off-duty cop driving a mini-van with the attention span of a worm cured me of that. (And yes it hurt quite a bit ...) I wish for you the best. |

I wouldn't go zero carbs for a fighter, a better idea would be to adjust your carbs around your training only. Stick with protein/fat meals all others, you'll keep more muscle, more strength, and you'll fat pronto. But the calorie deficit must be there, too |

My diet is going fine folks . I tried to reduce calories drastically and when I started feeling dizzy sometimes I just added more to the plate . My cardiologist asked me to diet to lose weight because I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol . He is a very good cardiologist . He gave me a paper that says what I should eat and not eat but I can not follow it as I do not like weighing every piece of food I put in my mouth . I think the best seasons to diet are the Fall ( Autumn ) and Winter . Summer is the hardest .
