Its odd, the way definitions change. I was sure that to retard was to slow something down and retarded implied that something had been slow or slowed down. Seems the only definition now has to do with mental health,,,,weird

if you look it up- yes under 'retard' you have several definitions, yet that is the only one under 'retardation'flowerforyou

I'm retarded..... All I can say is Retarded, which makes me retarded

from your posts here, I can't argue with you.....

retarded: slow or limited in intellectual or emotional development or academic progress.

-Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary

Thank you, it means so much to me that you chose to respond to my post out of all the posts and even the OP...flowerforyou

I'm not alone after all!

Why are so many people trying to be so called "different"..I don't understand this. when someone says this to me usually there is some form of retarded out look on life in their head. I think people have complicated their lives so much that even the simple thing seem difficult to do like hold a conversation for 5 mins.....anyway if anyone has more to add ...please do so.:))

Good first post, man! sort of... different. You're right, it's people who have complicated their own lives so they lost such basic skills and make it difficult for themselves, like understanding. It is rather counfounding how people don't understand each other, and want to be different, like less complicated than everyone else. It would only take 5 mins to figure this out, but do they do it? No. U no y?

Another thing is laziness. In my time we used to spell words out like "minute". The kids of yesteryear think they've got it big on the kids of today. Whereas the kids of yesterday are the smartest, least different, and most likely to still have retained the simple things in their make-up.

I have to start my reply with an admission - I totally skipped the six pages of responses up to this point and only read what "wux" had to say because he took the time to comment on something I wrote and seems to have a lot of insight.

My insight - "Different"... I think what attracts people of a certain nature is a feeling of isolation and a profound desire to connect. Some people don't know how to say they're just scared shitless nobody will ever understand them.

Damnit, wux, you're a hard act to follow.

Pancakes... I'm blushing under my fur.

Please let me suggest for you to read "small gods" by Terry Pratchett. All his books are excellent. In this one he talks about a god who has one follower. One believer. In that world gods rank in importance and power according to how many followers or believers they have.

Thanks for your compliment.

There are other gods around here. Like that blonde one. But mostly it's a democratic forum, people like each other, jostle each other, and if they get angry, they easily forgive each other. I have been to many forums but this is the best for accepting an odd, a different person, it is the least judgmental and the most light-hearted of all forums I've ever partaken in.

I'm exhausted but I'll be up for hours. So for so rich a food as you prepare I'll just say...

"Cheers, friend."

And I agree. Mingle is such an accepting environment.

In light of this revelation, I will be spending Christmas day in the mingle forums!

It fascinates me the way everyone claims to be "unique" in their profiles, and then they always go on to write the exact same things I saw in the last 12,889 profiles.

Seriously. I have seen lines like "I'm unique because I love my friends and family." Senate Bill 1936-2 made it mandatory for every profile to contain the words "I love my friends and family," so that's hardly a good display of uniquitude.

I've been called different by others, I've been called eccentric and a couple times strange. Different and eccentric has a better ring to it. I'm not sure why the categories, I'm me, whatever that may be. I think different is used when someone doesn't follow the accepted criteria for the circle of people around them.
