I will be going for a long weekend next month. I'd like to hear what you guys can recommend there. Places to see, places to eat.. things like that. Last time I was there was about 10 years ago.

I would say...make sure you bundle up. I think it's really cold during this time. Make sure to keep all items close to you when walking down the city. Buy a good NY hot dog. Can't go wrong with a taste of the city. As for a restaurant...not too sure. All the stores are great...and no tax! I'd give better advice, but it's been awhile for me too.

I was there last year with my mother and kiddo in December - yep - BRRRRRRRRRR! We took the tour bus and just got on and off as we pleased. Rockefeller Ctr was super cool. I'll try to remember what else My daughter loved the wax museum but I wasn't too impressed. We saw the Rockettes Christmas show - SUPER cool!

Definitely go to Rockafeller center and see the tree... If you can cab it, it's much better than parking at somewhere around $30 for a few hours...
Not sure what you're interested in doing but I always loved to see a broadway show, take a ferry around the hudson, walk around 42nd, bleeker, central park, etc... |

Tina - I won't be driving. I'm taking the bus from Baltimore - $18.50 round trip! Then public transportation in the city.
chickayoshi - Thanks for the advice . Ledi, Joy and Eric - I do want to go to Rockefeller Center! I've never been to Central Park, either. Joy and Jim - I'm not planning on going to any shows, but thanks for the other ideas! Eric - The museums are a good idea. I'm starting to think a long weekend isn't long enough. |

We were there for 5 days and it wasn't enough at all!

We were there for 5 days and it wasn't enough at all! The main reason for me going is to see friends and family. So, it's definitely not going to be enough time there. |

I'm going to NJ in the spring and hoping to take in a show.. There is nothing like broadway for me... I do miss that... I loved seeing all the sites and walking around 42nd and going into the shops etc. Rockefeller center, the tree and watching the ice skaters was definitely a great experience..

Central Park, Madame Tussauds wax museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Top of the Rock (30 Rockefeller Center) Incredible view!!! asd a ex Nyer...keep your money/valuables on your person, don't keep big cash together. On subways..don't look at people in the eye, very threatening. Don't take 'short cuts" to get to other streets- esp uncrowded ones (walking). If you miss your stop, get off the next if others are getting off or if it's a crowded station and get back on, people 'bumping' into you may be doing a quick search. Don't carry a puse unless under your jacket, or good jewlery, fakes are just as pretty. If you'feel' trouble get out. Have fun, it's worth it... |
