It is the same as the one in Africa!! Made me look it up too!!

The Great Rift Valley is a vast geographical and geological feature,
approximately 6,000 kilometres (3,700 mi) in length, which runs from
northern Syria in Southwest Asia to central Mozambique in East Africa.
Caused by the geological process of rifting, it is a complex feature
where several plates of the earth's crust join. The rift valley varies
in width from thirty to one hundred kilometers, and in depth from a few
hundred to several thousand meters.

Thanks for all the great info, Invisible!

I think some strains of algae and bacteria live in the Dead Sea. Or did:
it's salinity has increased steadily when the Jordan waters got diverted
upstream by Israel.

Salt forms on everything, including working boat propellers.

They built these water front restorts, retreats whatever, years ago. Now
the water is so far away, they have to bus the Christian Tourist from
the motels, so they can float in the salt rich holy water!! Its really
distressing to many retirees that have waited their whole life to swim
in the dead sea!!!drinker

Oceans Fanta posted that Israel was spending millions or some such thing
to put water into the Dead Sea and your claiming they are taking it out.

Jeeze if I might think you were a Islamic Fundamentilist with your
single minded insuinations against Israel in ever post you make.

Other countries are also taking water from the Jordan.

As far as the Dead Sea drying up, ever heard of Death Vally California.
It is the same type of area. It used to also have a vast dead sea in
its center. Like the Dead Sea it was below current sea levels. Like
the Dead Sea it is in a parched area. And like the Dead Sea is doing
now the sea the was in Death Vally California dried up over a period of
time till it is only small brackish pools of higly toxic water.

Stop it, AB.

The post about water into the Dead Sea is undoubtedly about suphoning
Mediterranean salty water into the Dead Sea. My posting about the
Israelis taking water out was about their interception of the Jordan
River above the dead Sea. The Jordan is sweet water. You can use sweet
water for agriculture and municipal purpsoes. You can't easily use salt
water for either. Two TOTALLY different matters.

Why the silly insults, AB? That doesn't seem like you.
