Brown Baggin It

Rape changes you.
I share much of my heart here,
knowing it will reach,
hoping it will help.
Experience shared can be a gift.
I cannot wrap this up in anything,
save brown paper, or clear cellophane.
There are no ribbons,
no bangles and stars,
glitter, or romantic sentiment
that can soften this hatred.
It has been 45 years.
I am still in shock at times,
pain, yes, that pain
that can be debilitating
while you are growing family
and finally, myself
as I find that hurt tucked away
in the growing process
of my children's hearts.
Of all the questions I give energy to
this one sticks out the most..
Change? good?
Today, a brown paper bag,
with sandwiches of..
wrapped in cellophane.
