I have a friend who just got back from Peru..he spent a month in the jungle drinking the "jungle vine" with the Shaman...
The present-day Maya, as a whole, do not attach much significance to 2012. Although the calendar round is still used by some Maya tribes in the Guatemalan highlands, the Long Count was strictly employed by the classic Maya, and was only recently rediscovered by archaeologists. Mayan elder Apolinario Chile Pixtun and Mexican archaeologist Guillermo Bernal both note that "apocalypse" is a Western concept that has little or nothing to do with Mayan beliefs. Bernal believes that such ideas have been foisted on the Maya by Westerners because their own myths are "exhausted". Mayan archaeologist Jose Huchm complains that, "If I went to some Mayan-speaking communities and asked people what is going to happen in 2012, they wouldn't have any idea. That the world is going to end? They wouldn't believe you.

The "end of the world" concept comes from radical Christians who are waiting for Jesus..and the radical New Age Groups. Has nothing to do with the Maya or the calender.

That's like 2 years away?
Knowone has a set time?
So does people dwell on this?
For it is lore!
So why does someone worry about this?

Why are we in such a hurry for the world to end? There always seems to be someone or some group anticipating a cataclysmic event of some kind or another.
This is it, life. Live it, enjoy it, make the best of it.

Actually they did predict the conquistadors. They predicted "white gods" would come from the sea. That's part of the reason they were easily conquered. They initially submitted to the conquistadors thinking they were the gods from their legends.

Wait, I thought Fox News would be an "English Only" kind of outlet?
I never watch so I don't really know.

Because once again, religion caused problems. Cortez was thought to be a God come home, and was welcomed. He took it, and proceeded on a widescale slaughter.

However, they didn't predict the end of time, they just finished an end of calendar.
