I am looking for A new job. What is the best way to go about this?
I can get 3 recomendation's, if I ask. Would that help? Do I just fill out the App, or should I have A resume? Should I call around to see who is hiring? I have A job right now, but It' only temporary. Baisicaly pay's the bills. I know it's tough out there, but there is A pretty good pool of knowledge here. Any ideas? I need your help, Please. I don't ask for much, just A little help. Thank you so much. |

Retail will be booming here soon.
Go in, ask for an application or give them your resume. Recommendations always help, cross your fingers...and hope they don't downsize the company after you've been working there for years. |

What kind of job are you looking for? Retail, sales, engineering, manufacturing, medical,??? They all require a slightly different approach. The best way to find a job however is to know somebody, ie networking.

As a hiring manager here's my tips to you.
DON'T call unless you have already submitted a resume or application. It's fine to follow up on your resume but I hate it when someone calls me just to ask if I'm hiring. If you're that interested, you would come in and apply. Have a resume, not to long and not to short. Try to avoid long gaps unless they are explainable. Even when you're just picking up or dropping off an application, dress like you're going to an interview. I will almost never call someone in for an interview that dropped off their application looking like they just crawled out of bed and all sloppy. You can apply online but applying in person gets your foot in the door a little easier. Whenever possible, get in there and talk face to face. Apply for relevant jobs. Don't go applying for jobs you are not qualified for. Not only will you not get hired, but it's more time consuming for you and frustrating because you're not getting calls back. Find out the qualifications before you apply whenever possible. As far as references, you should have 3 personal references ( not related to you ) and 3 work related references. Make sure if you're filling out applications, you don't leave blank areas. Try to be as specific you can about dates of previous employment whenever possible. And when you're in an interview, avioid "Ummm's" when you're answering a question and always try to make eye contact. It makes you appear more confident. Good luck in your search |

Dress to impress.
The guys showing up in flip flops or baggy @ssed pants trying to look gangsta let's me know that they ain't serious. Eye contact...MAKE IT! From the receptionist to the inerviewer....look em right in the eye. A trick that works for me.....during an interview....tell them...."I could tell you that I am dependable and hard working but talk is cheap....let me work for you...in two years you will know that I am dependable and hard working" (That last part only works if you ain't full of s*#t) Good luck homeboi |
