Topic: Are there any Mormon practicers out there??? | |
---|---|
Because that's really the only religion that I don't know much about.
I'd prefer to learn about it from someone that practices on a regular basis, but if any of you have a general idea, please enlighten me!!! |

Redangel0625,
There are certain subjects that Mormons are told to not talk about with outsiders. If you want to dirt, you will have to find ex-Mormons to discuss their beliefs with. Some of their beliefs are very strange to the average person, so they want you to believe before you know what it is you are believing. |
so maybe I should rephrase my question... Are there any Ex mormon
practicers out there??? |
Basically they are like the JW's(Jehover's Witnesses) and Scientology
combined. http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=Mormon+Truth YouTube - What Mormon Theology Is Really All About Cartoon ... duty to tell the truth about the Book of Mormon, Jospeh Smith, Mormon teacgings. ... I'm not saying all Christians think this sort of thing about Mormons. ... www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7v_V8qSIIo So there you have it. The truth. So are you going to vote for Mitt Romney as your president and have a Mormon Moron in the whitehouse too. Ghost |

That wasn't the plan... but I had a mormon friend a long time ago and
everytime I asked him about his faith he would say that "it's not what you think" but he wouldn't tell me anymore... and I like to know about everybody's beliefs because I know there is a world of people outside of my church and community... |

"its not what you think"
WOW haha red that doesn't explain anything |

god and his wife were once people too.
Jesus was god and his wife's firstborn son. Jesus was Adam, before he became Jesus. god and his wife had "spirit babies" and that's all of us. The second born son of god and his wife was Lucifer. Jesus and Lucifer both offered plans for how the world would be run and it was voted upon by all the spirit babies, Jesus won. If you are married in a mormon church, you and your spouse will become gods and create your own world. That's a good bit of their beliefs for you. |
Well... interesting... and pretty different than what I believe...
Spirit babies.. that's a funny concept. |
And bored, I think my buddy was referring to how most people think
they're all polygamists... and I do... but he said it's not what I think... so maybe I'm wrong... sometimes I am. |

Arent their different types of Mormons?I know non members cant attend
your wedding. |
Well that's no fun!!! I want EVERYBODY to come to my wedding!!! I want
the whole WORLD to be shocked together!!! |

Hi redangel.
I knew that. I was just putting a plug agenst that mormon creep. he's the type of guy who would offer you a drink and make you pay for it after. lookup his bipo on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitt_Romney Romney now holds pro-life views, though in 1994 he supported abortion rights. Romney personally declined to be compensated for his services during his one term as governor, but has been criticized by the group Common Cause for the many out of state trips he has taken, stating that he used state resources to promote his own political career as well as other GOP candidates. Mary Boyle of Common Cause stated "The people of Massachusetts are essentially funding his presidential campaign, whether they like it or not..." That's F**Ked up! Massachusetts Democratic Party officials claimed that Romney was ineligible to run for governor, citing residency issues. The Massachusetts Constitution requires seven consecutive years of residency prior to a run for office. Romney claimed residency in Utah from 1999 to 2002, during his time as president of the Salt Lake City Olympic Committee. In 1999 he listed himself as a part-time Massachusetts resident.[28] The Massachusetts Democratic Party filed a complaint with the Massachusetts State Ballot Law Commission, which eventually ruled that Romney was eligible to run for office. The ruling was not challenged in court.[29] That was so he didn't have to pay State Tax's. He essentially closed the gab for other's to find loophole in State taxes but he avoided that for himself. What a politician! Ghost |

When I was living in another town I let some Mormon young men in my
home. We talked a lot and prayed. We read their Bible and mine in sequence. They never ever forced temselves on me or my life. They asked if they could come around and talk to me, to which I said yes. We visited once a week for a long time. We talked and learned from each other. They have a very faithful loving relationship with their church and family. They do have some beliefs that a lot of church goers do not. But, I will tell you this. They are teachers. They will be ready in case of an emergency. They make much of theeir own cereals and flour and all kinds of things. They make it and store it away at their homes and in, well somewhere safe. They will be able to live off themselves for quite some time. Their beliefs are strong. They were willing to teach me to quit smoking and show me all kinds of things, in meetings I was invited to. We visited up until they both were sent to Utah for further teaching. They were wonderful, respectful, funny, and loving people whom I missed when they left. kat |

There is more than one branch of the Morman faith. The original Morman
faith is very much like those Christians who could not marry outside their faith. It would not be possible for one to remain in good standings with their religion, as a Morman, and marry a Christian who was not Morman, not to mention any other faith. Theirs was for so long a society veiled in secrets. It was not until about 25 to 30 years ago that many of these veils were removed, by those who either chose to leave the religion, which included leaving their family, or were asked to leave and therefore shunned by their community. These were the first to shed light on the secrecy and the beliefs and the structure of the faith. It is a very new faith and has been well documented. What others may tell you, may be include differing information, as currently, as I said, there is more than one branch. However, the reading is quite interesting. If you are truly interested, it may serve you better to research it yourself. This might also give you some insight into how people come to follow a particular faith. All quite enlightening, if one choose to be self enlightened. |

The only reason that I ask people for their experiances is because life
is always much more intersting than written accounts. I'd love to hear a Mormon tell me exactly what a day in the life consists of for him or her, versus reading about it in a book. Don't get me wrong, I do research!!! But I'm a romantic and I love hearing first hand accounts. That's why I asked... but thanks Red, I'll look into it! |

Y'all...let's TRY not to bash other faiths.
Redangel-There was a great special on the LDS (Latter Day Saint) Church (Mormons) on PBS last month. You may be able to dowload it online. It might be on the website. www.lds.org They do have a lot of what we all would call secret aspects to their faith. They consider them sacred. I have a lot of Mormon friends at work. There are many things that are foreign to me in the faith, but since it is not my faith who am I to question it. |

Wow I see someone is spreading rumors again about the Mormon Faith
again; god and his wife were once people too. You should be a writer, this is a true work of Fiction, it has lots of imagination and idols. This would make for a very good movie. Now for this comment; YouTube - What Mormon Theology Is Really All About Cartoon ... duty to tell the truth about the Book of Mormon, Jospeh Smith, Mormon teacgings. ... I'm not saying all Christians think this sort of thing about Mormons. ... What does this have to do ith Mormon faith? Tell me I would like to know. Red, Theirs was for so long a society veiled in secrets. It was not until about 25 to 30 years ago that many of these veils were removed, by those who either chose to leave the religion, which included leaving their family, or were asked to leave and therefore shunned by their community. These were the first to shed light on the secrecy and the beliefs and the structure of the faith. I don't think this occurred due to those who left the church, it had to do with those at the top. It was realized by the presidency of the churh that it was time to start allowing people to express themselves in public. For many years it was the philosophy of the church that if you wish to know more about the mormon faith come to church and find out. To Learn about who the people are that believe that these days are the Latter days spoken of in the King James Bible. As a result of many other things both public and private about the Church the leadership now speaks out more in public to try to show the rest of the world that the Mormons are Christian in Faith AND Believe in the King James Bible to be the word of God as far as it is Translated Correctly. Each Time I see someone Spout incorrect information about the Mormons I will come out and tell you what I know about it. FYI, I was raised Mormon and because of my own beliefs I do Not Call myself Mormon/LDS, however I will tell you what they practice or do not practice. Many talk about secret rituals, this is very funny when I hear that one. There is no secret rituals in the LDS Faith, those who do not understand or hear only portions of the truth Spout about rituals. So many people still believe That The Mormons have thier own Bible. This is not true, The Book of Mormon is the teachings of Christ on this the North American Continent. It is a history written by prophets in North America. Whether you believe this or not is not the question, this is the Belief of those who are Mormon. Any other questions or Comments? |

THANK YOU GRYPHYN!!! I really appreciate your post! I wasn't intending
to bash anyone's faith, I just really wanted to know more about it honestly!!! But the concept of spirit babies was comical to me... But thank you for enlightening me, and one question... is the LDS the more modern version of Mormonism or is it just a branch of the religion? Because you know like w/ Christianity there are several off shoots... |

Every religion has parts that are practice only by the faithfull in
secret. I could not participate in Catholic rituals nor can I participate in Jewish rituals within the temple. I can not attend some cermonies in most Christian churches I am not a member of. This does not make them a dark secret. It only makes them something the people that practice them do not want disrupted by a person that has not shown some idea of what they are. In defense of this practice I am sure that if I attended a cermony in a Jewish temple I would get in the way because of my ignorance of the patterns of those rituals not because they are some deep dark secret. It would be the same if I went to any church/temple/tabernacle or ceremony where I had not been trained in their 'mysteries'. I would be like a left footed dancer at a right circling dance at an Indian cermony. (been there they were polite about it but I WAS in the way) |

I was raised Mormon. My younger sister is still Mormon. The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the original Mormon church. There is at least reorginized church. I have not been involved with the church for many years now, but I do remember much of the teachings & beliefs. It is not true that only members can attend your wedding. The only way that would be fact is if you are married in a temple & non members are not allowed inside a Mormon temple. Most have 2 ceremonies, one in the temple & one in the church, the latter of which anyone may attend. Once you are married in the tmeple, you wear temple garments under your clothing at all times. There are many things done within the temple including baptisms & work for the deceased. They also believe that your body is a "temple" and you cannot do anything to harm it, which includes no drinking alcohol, no smoking & no intake of caffeine. I hope this answers some of your questions. The LDS church has a website from which you can learn more if you wish to gain more insight into this religion. Peace, love & wisdom |
