Topic: Lonely vs. Alone | |
---|---|
I now that many people have felt loneliness. Can someone explain just what loneliness is? What is the difference between lonely and being alone? This is a serious question. I would like to be able to really understand and be empathetic when a friend says they are feeling lonely. I have a hard time responding to that and know what the right thing to say is. well there are people who cannot be alone because that makes them feel lonely. Being comfortable in your own company is a step towards not feeling lonely, is it not? I've never felt lonely as it's been described in the previous posts, that's why I'm asking for clarification. Maybe it's just different for everybody. |

I have a hard time responding to that and know what the right thing to say is. i'm alone all the time but only lonely some of the time. for me it depends on my mood. when i'm alone but not lonely i'm content with my own presence. i like the person that i am and i often feel comfortable just being with me and do not need other companionship. but sometimes my mood turns to needing or desiring other companionship. this is when i feel lonely. i don't think lonely is a bad thing necessarily. it motivates me to reach out to others to relieve the loneliness. and of course we need not be alone to feel lonely. many of us have escaped relationships where we felt alone and lonely with a mate lying next to us in bed. good question op and i'm not sure i have a good answer. but there's my answer, good or otherwise. |

I think that's a perfect response to a great question. I know it can be confusing somtimes to know the difference. But Bogie, I think you are right on the spot.. good job...thumbs up.
By the way, I love reading your posts. Sometimes you are funny, make one think out side of the box, or in a different light and other times you are the purest of pure jerk... But that's ok... I like real people vs phonies. |
