Topic: When prey turns predator - buffalo and lions | |

This is amazing to me. A group of lions attacks a group of buffalo, and takes out the smallest one while the rest flee. They don't kill it, but they gather around it and prepare to eat it. Pretty normal Discovery channel fare, right? *Then* the herd of buffalo come back and attack the lions! They save their fallen buffalo, and chase off the lions. Its really amazing to watch the individual members of each group, and how they decide when and whether to attack, or run away. It reminds me of how some of the angry drunk human beings behave after the bars let out downtown. |

Its because buffalo eat carrots the drunks downtown don't

lol... carrots cant run

Hey, I thought the Lion was king of the jungle!!!
No, it's the carrot that's the king of the jungle... :)

The dynamics of collective behaviours fascinate me.
And how humans interact. The whole drunk thing after closing time, is a prime example of over stimulated frustrations being released... the stimulant being the alcohol. |

iRon, Keoni, Gypsy, SheNerd, and Jess -
I'm curious if any of you watched the video; if so, what did you think? I knew that both lions and buffalo found safety in numbers... but I had no idea that a lone buffalo would scare the crap out of a lone lion. Or so casually toss a lion so high in the air! |
Yes, I watched it. It was both interesting and educational (as well as
being funny as hell)... :) |
SheNerd, thanks! I didn't even realize it was funny... but now that you
mention it, that part where the lion runs like hell from the pursuing buffalo is choice! |

Massagetrade, as I am quite the eccentric, I find humor in the strangest
things. Thanks for sharing this. :) |

Ooops... Sorry Tulip! maybe I should have done this firts:
WARNING! BLOOD AND VIOLENCE! It did sadden me when that little baby Buffalo gets taken down and chewed on. I'm sorry I didn't warn you first. |
SheNerd, now that you say it, I can totally see it.

lions do kill the weak and young... Then they eat them.. dont know what
episode you seen, but all I seen was they kill them. if you mean water buffalo, yes they defend them selves pretty good against lions,. but the lions seem to always get their kill. As far as drunks... I dont bother them. they are people after all |

Trizar,
Do you have hi-speed internet? If so, please put this address in your browser and watch the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU8DDYz68kM These lions not only failed to get their kill (in the end), they got a thorough beat down from their so-called prey. I've never seen -anything- like this on Discovery channel! |
