Topic: abortion funding is in healthcare bill

Abortion will not be covered by the federal government ever again, you can bank on it. The bill Obama signed about extreme circumstances was about as far as that will ever go and I believe that will be over turned anyway.

This is not a concern to worry about.

If you want to worry about something with the bill we need to look at the cuts to Medicare. We need to watch those penalties to those who don't get the insurance even though they say they will only be for those who can afford it. Etc...

This is just a propaganda tool to make people fight against the healthcare bill instead of working within it. Probably started by the right wing healthcare organizations.

Read the post!!!!!!
It's not about fighting against the whole bill!!!!!
They want an ammendment added taking abortion out of it!!!!!

They cannot take the word abortion nor the fact that abortions are done out of the bil because abortions exist and are done by medical facilities. It has to be part of the bill because it is already law.

I worded it wrong take out fed funding for abortions

As far as I know there is and will be no federal funding for abortions except in that extreme case thing earlier this year and I am not sure it will stand so maybe not.

If you read the wording that was posted by Peladac. It says the section for already approved abortion stuff and not approved abortion stuff. It is just reiterating the laws we already have. Each state has it's own rights when it comes to abortion and the bill is just reiterating that fact.

Some of us just aren't griping, some like myself are very proactive contacting my politicians in my state.

Me too and once in a while you actually get a Senator on the phone. But it's like talking to a robot all they say is...yeah,uh huh, yep, yeah. Then I'm like "your a idiot",and they are ok,yeah,ok.

I wouldn't loose any sleep over this health care bill.Last time I heard every Republican was against it and 4 Democrats. It wouldn't pass even if every Democrat voted for it and they don't have enough for a fillabuster.

Yes and I wish more would be more proactive. I really like Oklahoma's politicians, well most of them. I always get a response whether it was nice thanking them or telling the to get off their butts and do something right, stop cowering down.

I hope you are right.

That is unbelievably absurd. Liposuction and face lifts are being done too. Abortions being paid for under this law would only exist if they ARE INCLUDED IN THIS BILL!

That is not true at all.

The health bills do not approve anymore abortion stuff than is already in the law books and that includes any funding.

Plastic surgery is not covered by health companies anyway.

Obama Told House Democrat He Wasn’t Talking about House Health Bill When He Told Congress ‘Our Plan’ Doesn’t Fund Abortion
Monday, October 26, 2009
By Terence P. Jeffrey, Editor-in-Chief

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) (AP Photo)(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Bart Stupak (D.-Mich.) told CNSNews.com that President Barack Obama told him in a telephone conversation that when he said in his Sept. 9 speech to a joint session of Congress that “under our plan no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions” he was not talking about the actual bill drafted in the House but about the president’s own health care plan—which has never been written.

“I don’t know if it is a game of semantics or what,” Stupak said of Obama’s nationally televised declaration to Congress that the health-care plan will not allow federal funding of abortion.

Both the House and Senate versions of the health-care bill permit federal funds to pay for insurance plans that cover abortions.

In his speech to the joint session of Congress, Obama directly rebutted the claim that the plan would fund abortions, calling it a “misunderstanding.” But in his later telephone conversation with Stupak, according to the congressman, Obama said that when he claimed in the speech that the plan would not fund abortions he was not talking about the House plan, he was talking about his own plan.

There is still no wording that authorizes funds for abortion in the bill. So that is still just propaganda.

Have you read all 1900 pages?I haven't and doubt anyone else has either. They said you need two laywers just to diciper the language in the bill because it's so complicated.Regardless of what he says I followed Obama from day 1 when he started his campaign two years before he was elected and he promised planned parenthood "the first thing I would do was to sign the freedom of choice act"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf0XIRZSTt8

I already know Obama and Pelosi are the most radical backers when it comes to abortion and there is no way you are going to get me to believe they wouldn't do everything in their power to pass any laws regarding abortion.

You can bet if the wording were there for the funding of abortions in any of the bills offered, we would know the words, be able to access the spot where they were and have them translated by the right wingers in a heartbeat.

It is not there that is why it is just this propaganda type "suggestion" of it being there now to try to put people off the bill.

Actually, there are a lot of Democrats against that language. One article today says 43 Dems will vote against it if such language is included
http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/56401

It doesn't appear to be a right-wing or left-wing issue in terms of this particular bill.

Yea I have found some information that is not propaganda, I read it in the bill. I suggest others do the same.

The House Bill unveiled just yesterday reportedly weighs 19 pounds, contains 400K words, and has an "estimated 10-year cost of $894 billion, that comes out to about $2.24 million per word" according to news sources.

Even if our legislators READ it, it's unlikely they can decipher it in a week before it goes to a vote.

I'm a pretty fast reader and given those statistics for a bill that came out just yesterday, it would take me a LOOOOOONG time to even ATTEMPT to read through it (seriously cutting into my Mingle time- LOL!) and comprehension of the legal-speak would be a whole 'nother matter! It wouldn't be happening in a day or a week or ???

I don't think anyone in America, including those who crafted this bill, will really know what is being voted on!

Considering that it is a compilation of several bills, that helps with the understanding some for those familiar with those bills. I read through some of one of the earlier bills, it is difficult to read and needs to be read a couple of times in some spots to get the jist of it.

I disagree. I think the people who crafted this bill have been planning this for a very long time and that is why they don't want to give anyone time to understand it fully before passing it.

The first part of your answer here is correct, but the reason is not. Healthcare bills have been circulating and being created and tossed around since before Clinton was in office. Healthcare reform has been an issue for a while now. Noone has been able to get people to commit to it.
