Topic: Hafiz - passionate magic | |
---|---|
I am posting some of the poetry of Hafiz in the Religion section as his
writings were often "ecstatic love songs from God to his beoved world, many have called Hafiz the 'Tongue of the Invisible." I find them to be passionate magic... He was a Persian sharing life in the 1300's and who has influenced many great writers and philosophers of modern time... WHEN I WANT TO KISS GOD When No one is looking I swallow deserts and clouds And chew on mountains knowing They are sweet Bones! When no one is looking and I want To kiss God I just lift my own hand To My Mouth. -Hafiz- |

EVERYWHERE
Running Through the streets Screaming, Throwing rocks through windows, Using my own head to ring Great bells, Pulling out my hair, Tearing off my clothes, Tying everything I own To a stick, And setting it on Fire. What else can Hafiz do tonight To celebrate the madness, The joy, Of seeing God Everywhere! -Hafiz- |

LAUGHING AT THE WORD TWO
Only That Illumined One Who keeps Seducing the formless into form Had the charm to win my Heart. Only a Perfect One Who is always Laughing at the word Two Can make you know Of Love. -Hafiz- |

COURTEOUS TO THE ANT
God Blooms From the shoulder Of the Elephant Who becomes Courteous To The Ant. -Hafiz- |

THE SCENT OF LIGHT
Like a great starving beast My body is quivering Fixed On the scent Of Light. -Hafiz- |

THE FOUNDATIONFOR GREATNESS
Greatness Is always built upon this foundation: The ability To appear, speak, and act As the most Common Man. -Hafiz- |

I AM REALLY JUST A TAMBOURINE
Good Poetry Makes the universe admit a Secret: “I am Really just a tambourine, Grab hold, Play me Against your warm Thigh.” -Hafiz- |

THE STAIRWAY OF EXISTENCE
We Are not In pursuit of formalities Or fake religious Laws, For through the stairway of existence We have come to God’s Door. We are People who need to love, because Love is the soul’s live, Love is simply creation’s greatest joy. Through The stairway of existence, O, through the stairway of existence, Hafiz, Have You now come, Have we all now come to The Beloved’s Door. -Hafiz- |

STOP BEING SO RELIGIOUS
What Do sad people have in Common? It seems They have all built a shrine To the past And often go there And do a strange wail and Worship. What is the beginning of Happiness? It is to stop being So religious Like That. -Hafiz- |

IT FELT LOVE
How Did the rose Ever open its heart And give to this world All its Beauty? It felt the encouragement of light Against its Being, Otherwise, We all remain Too Frightened. -Hafiz- |

WHY ABSTAIN?
Why Abstain from love When like the beautiful snow goose Someday your soul Will leave this summer Camp? Why Abstain from happiness When like a skilled lion Our heart is Nearing And Will someday see The divine prey is Always Near! -Hafiz- |

FOR A SINGLE TEAR
I know of beauty That no one has ever Known. How could that be possible When I may seem So new in infinite time? It is because God belongs to only you! Did you hear that? Did you hear what Hafiz just said? God belongs to only you! It is the only reasonable payment For a single Tear. -Hafiz- |

THE GREAT WORK Love Is the great work Though every heart is first an Apprentice That slaves beneath the city of Light. This wondrous trade, This magnificent throne your soul Is destined for – You should not have to think Much about it, It is not clear An apprentice needs a teacher Who himself Has charmed the universe To reveal its wonders inside his cup. Happiness is the great work, Though every heart must first become A student To one Who really knows About Love. -Hafiz- |

THE GIFT
Our Union is like this: You feel cold So I reach for a blanket to cover Our shivering feet. A hunger comes into your body So I run to my garden And start digging potatoes. You ask for a few words of comfort and guidance, I quickly kneel at your side offering you This whole book – As a gift. You ache with loneliness one night So much you weep And I say, Here’s a rope, Tie it around me, Hafiz Will be your companion For life. -Hafiz- |

HOW DO I LISTEN?
How Do I Listen to others? As if everyone were my Master Speaking to me His Cherished Last Words. -Hafiz- |

THAT REGAL COAT
Joy Is the royal garment And now everyday I could wear That regal Coat, But I so love the common man And feel for all Their labor I often paint a vast drop Of compassion In My Eye. -Hafiz- |
