I know you were kidding but do not drink when you get tattoos or piercings. The alcohol causes your blood to thin and you bleed more and for a longer period. You need the coagulation process. Besides, a good artist will not work on you if there are signs of being under the influence. Additionally, if you bleed a lot when getting tattooed, the blood mixes with the ink and distorts the color. You will lose the integrity of the lines and scar more easily. A raised tattoo is quite ugly! i know about the drinking, hun! thank you for the heads up anyway....very kind of you |

I've also heard about people taking an anti-flammatory before getting work done and -- of course -- the same blood thinning happens. It would suck to abort the process because of a dumb move like medicating before body art. |

You look thirty! Mid life...eeek. They do look cool. I ask someone with a tiny gold ball in her nose about how it felt and if there's a post on the other side. She said 'no post'. It doesn't bother her but I wonder about sneezing or blowing it out, lol!
At real mid life (me!), I now think of pores and how things don't heal as well as they used to heal and with that, I'll leave it alone. With the tiniest jewelry, it does look nice. People who get major things done, e.g., ear plugs (ugh, yikes) that they will be forty years old and do they want a donut hole in their ear (only if they are very eccentric). :) |

i've done my nose myself twice.
the first time, i was sixteen and i did it in the school bathroom. i was one of only two people in the school with their nose pierced...and i loved it. um, i even wore it with a chain to my ear and my lip. i took it out for work, but i re-pierced it when my husband and i split up. that was in 2001...i once again took it out for work...2004... it heals too freaking fast, and i can't have a pierced nose where i currently am working. |

i dunno if you remember but i posted that i was gonna get my nose pierced? well, i gave it some thought and i can't do it...i realized that i am too old to start this $hit... however i am still getting inked I think you might want to do a little research and think on that idea. If you want in say another year then go for it. Once you do it you are definitely going to be stuck with it for a very long long time. If it doesn't go well, not like people brag about when they wimp out half way through or get an ugly infection, it can be a real headache. I would be really hesitant about putting a tat where you can't cover it up when you want to. It sucks but some people still discriminate against tats and that can make life really tough when it affects employment, relationships, or how people treat people that matter to you (like your kids or grands). very very good points i have been thinking of getting a tatoo for a very long time...i agree 100% about how people can be...on the other hand, how are we going to break the stereotype...ya know what i mean Breaking down stereotypes takes a lot more courage than it sounds like. And costs a lot more than some folks are willing to pay. It sounds all noble, high minded, and maybe even exciteing to do something counter culture. But that initial flush fades and real life falls in. Ask people who live with body art how they are really treated. How often they are stared at, openly talked about within ear shot, pestered, lectured, shunned, and out right discriminated against? Ask them how it feels to be nice, courteous, helpful, and still be treated like a criminal, or a freak, or like you are a dumb ***, or permisscuous when you are none of those things? Or how hollow it feels when you tell someone off for being a bigot and it changes absolutely nothing. If having a tat is that significant to you then go ahead and get your tat. But think through the battles you pick and how long you really want to fight them. I would suggest a good henna tat. Live with it a while and see if you feel so bold. |

I have a huge scar on my nose from where my nose piercing used to be, occasionally people ask me if I have it pierced, or have had it pierced.
I dunno, i havent been into it since age 19. I would get my nipples pierced again though, I breastfed my son for a year so I let them grow in. Nipple piercing is awesome, and intimate. I loved them Hated having my tongue pierced.. man that was a retarded piercing! Never again! |
