from the Wiki:
"Absinthe was portrayed as a dangerously addictive psychoactive drug.[7] The chemical thujone, present in small quantities, was singled out and blamed for its alleged harmful effects. By 1915, absinthe had been banned in the United States and in most European countries except the United Kingdom, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Denmark and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Although absinthe was vilified, no evidence has shown it to be any more dangerous than ordinary spirits. Its psychoactive properties, apart from those of alcohol, have been much exaggerated.[7]" there was never any real justification for it's being banned. it is just an enjoyable (strong) alcoholic beverage! |

All I know, from owning a bar and talking to some old time Russians that could drink a bull under the table is if you drink it you are probably going to have a hell of a hangover. Easy does it.

I bought a little single serve bootle to try it out.
Does it taste good?

It was a solid "okay". Nothing really special for the 6 bucks I spent on it.

If you look in some of the really old cook books and apothocary manuels it was used as a cough suppressant for consumption. That is why early day commercial coughdrops original had a licorice flavor.

I love it!

I think I'd pass on it from now on.

The smell of licorice makes me gag. Can't drink the stuff

Did you follow the recipe? Ya know, sugar and cut it with water and all that? If not, it probably wasn't all that great for you.
There really isn't anything special about it any more, all the good stuff has been taken out, hence it's legalization in the U.S. Still, good stuff when done right. |

I had a bottle of Absinthe that was about sixty dollars complete with the spoon with the holes to melt the sugar... that stuff is serious. If you like Good n Plenty's you'll enjoy it.
