there's a river!
and snakes gliding in the grass!
trees, so large, so small
sway along with the breeze

"Where did you go!?", screams the rest of the scene

there's a river!
and tire tracks in the grass!
trees, not many, not at all
choked by hybrid crops swaying in the breeze

"Where'd you go?", dreams the rest of the scene

there's a river!
Um...Hey! What happened to the grass?
And...ummm....that's not all!
I only see pavement, there should be trees
swaying gently along, singing with the breeze

But now I see,
the origins of a life of ease.....

"We won't bother with that scene."

there's all this sh** in the river!
trotting sluggishly under an overpass
a cartoon tree painted on a building side
look around for the ground, it can't hide
burned weeds that sway with the breeze

"What's goin' on with this scene?"

Hey...um....where's the river?!
and the overpass, it's all crumbled, lying in ash
Many of the buildings stand, many not at all
And here I see,
a tatterted magazine flutters in the breeze
glaring a picture of long forgotten trees

"What the hell happened to the scene?!"

I really dig this piece. Great title, very interesting. The flow works very well and the imagery was spot-on. Really enjoyed it.
