The Garden
The soil was tilled and fertilized -she took much care in that Then she found her gardening gloves and her favorite old straw hat- She gathered all the seeds she had and placed them in her cart And planted them in careful rows- spacing them apart. Softly she covered each one with the sun warmed earth And watched and watered diligently as each one was birthed. They peeked their tiny heads up, reaching toward the sun She made sure to tend each plant as if it were her only one. After weeks of weeding and the rainstorms that came and went She began to see some fruit, from all the time she’d spent. The weeds came but she pulled them out, tossing them aside; Tending the rows so carefully made, looking on with pride. She checked her garden everyday, laboring with such care Until she saw the bounty of all she’d planted there. Picking each one at just the right time, she enjoyed so much All that the little seeds had produced, nurtured by her touch. Her table full of bounty and her heart full of pride Carefully saving all the seeds the harvest had inside. Her work began in the fall, never too early to begin Preparing for next year so she could do it all again. |
