A SPORT or a game?

Many regard poker as a sport.
I don't see how this can be justified.

What next? Monopoly and Scrabble?

I've always laughed at that too...I wonder how many years of training it would take to master the art of poker. Same goes for golf, tennis, volleyball, and off-roading.

Poker is about stragery and endurance, and focus thats only takes hours to learn but is never really mastered cause its constently changeing. So therefore it is a sport. May I remind you its called a football GAME, Baseball GAME, Hockey GAME Poker GAME.

..personally i thought that a sport required more activity than sitting on one's asss ahile deciding on whether to bet, fold or raise..unless you include the trips to the bathroom ..but only if the urinal has one of those targets on the bottom..i suppose that could be a sport..or not...

I could see how some would consider it a sport (in the realm of mind sport), but honestly, I don't care. I just enjoy playing the game.

Hey, the other day I ended up with pocket pairs and lost 6 of 7 hands the Jacks won for me with two pair. Now what is everyone else's strategy for Hold 'Em when dealt a pocket pair of 8's or less?

Depends:

If my hands for the night have sucked, and my chips are low, I might invest the remainder of my chips preflop and just hope for the best. Otherwise, save for the rare exception, I'd most likely limp in.

Pocket pair of 8 or less..........

Try to see the flop for as cheap as possible in the hopes of getting the trip or lower cards on the flop.

But if my read on my opponents tells me I have a shot, I may go big.

As much as I love to play, its a game.
