halloween does absolutely nothing for me, it never has. i hate dressing up, and i don't much care for walking around and getting and giving candy. seems like a pyramid scheme of some sort.

christmas has always been my favourite holiday; besides the obvious true meaning of christmas, i love the carols, the magic around santa, stuffed stockings, and families brought together.

The Christmas explanation was put beautifully... Yep... drinker

the true meaning of xmas has been lost over the centuries,it dates before the whole christ thing..it's documented history

I don't celebrate either of them, not in the traditional sense..
could really just go without both of these "holidays"...

we've been making a tradition for the past 4 years; the kids and i drive to frankenmuth, MI each fall before the weather gets bad (just got back yesterday as a matter of fact) and visit bronner's which is a massive-sized christmas store. we have a hoot picking out just the right ornament for friends/family/each other. then we fool around in a water park, have a huge schnitzel dinner, sleep overnigh and head back home the next day. two years in a row i've lost my darn cell phone in michigan. laugh

this year, they are old enough to stay up and celebrate midnight mass. there's only 1 church in the area though and my subdivision is full of catholics so we might have to stand in the parking lot to hear mass laugh

next year i'm forgoing gift exchange totally, i think, and instead will pack their luggages and leave packages under the tree filled with various destination clues. they won't find out where we're going until we land (unless they can decipher the clues) but it'll be some beach resort and we'll celebrate new year's day in a different country.

Sounds like fun..starting new traditions.
That's what I have done with my boys, particularly as they have gotten older. We pack up..get out of town, go somewhere new, but close.
Christmas in my town is very obnoxious!

Love halloween ,decorating and seeing the kids in costume but I love Christmas.... Besides the true meaning of Xmas we have a tradition of getting together and baking cookies and candies and making gifts for others. We always have a big dinner and never know how many will be there as we always encourage everyone to bring someone less fortunate.. the caroling, going to mass and all the decorations!!
