Honest answer ... doing crossword puzzles allows you to shut down the business of your brain. Other books engage you in a story but crosswords don't in the same way ... If you don't have any, print off a few from online.

I already took Tylenol PM and it seems like it didn't help coz I'm still awake... turn the TV right now and I took a long hot shower.. still awake... urgh! Benadryl takes about 2 hours to work and then you're so sleepy it's sick. But it works. Can i take bynadryl after taking 2 tylenol PM is that safe? I just don't want to overdose....I don't want to die like Michael Jackson... Noooo, don't take it after you already took the tylenol. It might take the tylenol a while to work, but don't take anything else. You might just be nervous, sometimes I'm like that. My brain won't turn off, it sucks. Thanks Caleigh.... You're welcome. |

Dust off one of your old books and read one of them, especially one that's dry and a little dull. If not, read the Old Testament in the Bible. If not that, watch the business report on CNBC. If none of those, then watch one of those crusty old black and white movies on tv. And if none of those work, a small glass of warm milk in the microwave, and some very soft music to go to sleep to. And if that doesn't work, imagine me sleeping next to you, with my arm over your belly. I'm a bit of an insomniac too, so I know what you're going through.

this works
self hypnosis lay completely relaxed. concentrate on every muscle relaxing and picture the number 100 in your mind that three deep breaths and count backwards 5,4,3,2,2,1 and picture the number 95 in your mind take three deep breaths and feel every muscle relax and count 5,4,3,2,1 and picture the number 90 just keep going to till you nod off keeping in mind that at every deep breath make your whole body relax. every little neck muscle, leg muscle, face muscle everything |

Relaxing the muscles one by one, starting with the feet and working your way up to your mind works, I've heard that and tried it successfully many times. I'm not sure the counting sheep or numbers thing works though. Sometimes, white noise, like a fan, or a CD with ocean sounds, or sounds of nature helps. I think your main objective is to quiet your mind. When you worry, fantasize, or think about things, it takes a lot longer to fall asleep. And for God's sake, don't keep looking at the clock!
