Oh come on now, being an american is great! In what other country is
there such a diversity in religion, philosophy, and political standing?
It bores me to the teeth to hear these hippies (please excuse that
expression, I don't mean to generalize, but I can't think of a better
term at the moment) complain about the only government that allows then
to so freely. The freedom half of them talk about is just as fanatic,
if not more so, as the insurgent groups who believe that killing any
"non believer" is the path to rightiousness. Pragmatism is NOT freedom,
in fact it's closer to communism. If you really want to have an
opinion, visit Baghdad once, talk to the good people there, and watch
the bad. Then come back and tell me if you really feel we're in the
wrong.

Oh boy....a seasoned peacekeeper...who believes in it all...

Funny how guns are needed for peace....funny how the stuff that is done
as a whole, is carried on the single soldier's shoulders.

You are not your army...you are not the War...you are one man....who in
your own admittance is taking a paycheck to support his family.

Oh no, not at all. I don't "believe in it all", in fact I'm
anti-democratic and can't wait to see bush leave. I do however know
that peacekeeping is EXACTLY what is needed in Baghdad right now.
Although we should limit our participation in patrols, and allow the
Iraqi people to handle it, a neutral party IS needed to keep the peace.
For us to pull out now would mean total chaos, and the eventual
destruction of Baghdad, not to mention future wars on our own land.

Thankyou.

I just responded to you in the other thread..

I felt you were standing up as the one who has to defend all...

thankyou...I am relieved...and at the same time saddened...what a
position to find yourself in....and most come to the same concensus...to
have a positive outcome to this debacle, there needs many changes of
governments, both there, and where you are, here, and in the UK..

and an instant pull out is not the answer...diplomacy...and a country
allowed to heal, and self govern...

Problem with this philosphy is easy to see.

If you keep peace with a gun you will be forced to use it.

For every man you shoot 4 of his family will rise up and swear vengence.

See now, that's exactly the kind of talk I'm referring to. Once again I
ask that you try to understand. Though I speak for myself here, and
this may not carry through the entire military; We do not go to Baghdad
with the intention of "shooting a man". We go to Baghdad with the
intention of preserving order and peace so that people do not have to
die (not just our soldiers, but the Iraqi people as well). If ever my
weapon is used, it is only for self preservation, or the protection of
innocent life. In contrast, those that our shooting at us do so with
the pure intention of killing us. To them, to kill just 1 of us is a
war victory for that individual. How can you possibly incinuate that we
are "death enforcers" in the light of that contrast?

I wish your son the best of luck, and hope that he does come home safe
and unharmed. Thank you for the support, it's very refreshing and rare
these days.

I hear you...I hear the feeling of the tide of poularity for a
government who is getting it wrong....and is failing all of you
miserably....the poeple of your country, and you that are there time and
again.

The loss of morality is hard to take...for many and as in history
past.....the resentment turned on troops.

How to deflect it where it is meant, how to have you guys home, and
maybe in different fields of employment?

I apoligized to you earlier Jess..
But now, ummmmmm the government is NOT my son or any one else fighting
this war. The men and women putting their lives on the line, are doing
so to bring peace to a troubled nation. If they could bring peace
without guns, they would. I think more prayers for the servicemen on the
front line would be more beneficial than critisizing the government.
Once again

PK said ... "In what other country is there such a diversity in

Well ... the UK, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Australia, Sweden,
France, Canada ... need I go on?

The point is to be proud to be an American is all well and good, but
what are you actually being proud for?

Pride refers to a strong sense of self-respect, a refusal to be
humiliated as well as joy in the accomplishments of oneself or a person,
group, or object that one identifies with.

The US didnt make those accomplishments ... the people did!

The country isnt an entity - its you lot.

Your country's accomplishments are both good and criminal. Same as the
majority of the countries on the planet.

-----

Switzerland has the highest %-age of legal gun ownership in the West.
It also has the lowest gun crime %-age in the West.

They have an army to protect from invasion. No one messes with the
Swiss. They have been "neutral" for years. Its not difficult to invade
Switzerland, but it has no natural resoures (apart from great chocolate
and cute cows - and the worlds money!!!)

You dont need guns for peace. You need a different mental attitude.
