I don't have kids, so maybe I'm the wrong one to ask, but I really don't see myself as being in any position to judge anybody else's choice of activities regardless....it's just not up to me to make those decisions....

Oh trust me! That is usually the plan, however it never happens!

My son is now in 8th grade and thank goodness for unlimited texting. Otherwise he would use ALL of my minutes!!

My son had a cell phone since he was 12. It was safer in these times. In fact, try to find a pay phone anywhere?

He isnt allowed to text....he ran up a large bill so that cut that out. But he has a fancier phone than I do since he keeps breaking them and they keep replacing them with these new fangled thangs.

I just need a simple phone for retodded peoples!

Ha i'm almost 30 and dropped texting completely. It cost double what it dose to call someone and leave a message. Getting ready to drop my phone from my buget all together. I'm tired of sending hundres of my hard earned dollars away each month. Not like anyone wants to get a hold of me anyway, but bill collectors. Starting to find out paper mail and lands line are the best. Who wants to be on call 24-7 anyway?

my daughter has a cell phone and got it in grade 6.

she has a limit though of $15.00 per month. it's the bare minimum so she can call in case of an emergency. if she doesn't use it, she loses it. so she has a budget and uses it accordingly.

if she ever goes over that limit (which she hasn't yet) then the priviledge gets revoked (even though it's mostly for my peace of mind that she has one).

I got five kids and to communicate with them I have to text or myspace. For me the ability to locate them at any given time is cool. Plus I have a special ring tone so I don't miss them at late hours. The younger ones will text into the 10 thousands per month.

I think you can teach kids not to abuse privileges, so it's not bad to give them a cell for emergencies. It's much safer for them, since so many things can happen to kids today.
