I quit. I won't be treated badly by anyone for any reason.
Good luck to you |

Yeah i wrote a scathing letter of resignation and walked out- she had a 3 hour meeting regarding my quitting with the rest of the staff
control freak much? |

I don't even think I wrote a letter, I just didn't show up for my next scheduled shift (thankfully, I had 2 jobs at the time). She called and asked and I told her flat out that I quit and EXACTLY why. She had 2 other people (our of a staff of 4) quit the same day. I don't know if she learned anything by it or not.

a few. one time, this big fat french sous-chef had it in for me this one day i showed up for my shift. throwing things towards me, not directly at me, but throwing them at me in an ugly manner, like "here cut these up!", talking to me like i was subhuman. but towards the end of the nite he put his hands on me, like he pushed me or yanked me or something... i told him never ever put his hands on me again, i was lookin him square in the face and had he touched me again i would have cleaned his clock, but instead he continued to babble something in his ridiculous accent and i walked over to the manager, explained to him what happened and that i couldn't work in a hostile environment like that, told him i didn't know what needed to happen for that to never occur but since it was so close to the end of my shift i went home. the next time i showed up for my shift, the @$$#oles didn't even bother to call me and let me kno, they waited until i showed up to tell me that i was fired and they gave me some BS reason.
another time a woman supervisor slapped the back of my head bcos i was kinda dozing off waiting for my headset to beep when a call came thru. i up and walked out of that job. last job i had in a kitchen, the boss was a jerk, i would just rob that place blind. i kept my fridge well stocked with fresh vegetables and frozen veggies, milk, cereals, instant mashed potatoes, stuff like that. plus i also took a few kitchen implements. i worked there for a year and never once was a raised discussed, i was making 9.25 as a chef. that's below industry entry level pay for that position. the kid who washed the dishes from the cafeteria was making 7.50 and when i told him how much i made he looked at me in disbelief until i showed him my check, at which point it went from disbelief to shock and disbelief. i was eventually fired from that job for some BS reason also but it was something silly that was just the excuse the boss was looking for to fire me. it's ok, because it was the end of the season to be working that job, since it wasn't a year round thing, and i had no plans of returning when the season started back up. i dunno ur situation, but i hope whatever it is, u handle it with dignity and integrity. |

Yes, when I worked in a major hospital here in MO that was going from not-for-profit to being bought by a huge corporation. They were coming in an shutting down whole departments, giving out 2-week notices left and right. Department managers fearful for their jobs kicked their act into high gear trying to make their departments shine by making unreasonable demands on their employees. Many folks were close to retirement and others had kids, families to support and would not go up against the boss, but I did, went right over her head to corporate, Human Resources got involved. In the end, I ended up quitting, but a lot of folks got to keep their jobs because not long after changes were made and that boss got canned.

Kind of.......
My current branch mgr is on a bit of a power trip. He earned his position so I just deal with it. I have been order to never question him, disagree with him or say anything negative in front of the employees. No problem. The problem occurs when he is hanging out getting f'd up with me at my house and editing or deleting my posts on Twitter and FaceBook cause he doesn't agree or thinks it is inappropriate. Saturday he was letting me know what I needed to take out of my art video on Youtube. I told him straight up....."you are overstepping your bounds" His response. "Mother F******! I'm your boss!" My reply...."Not in my home you ain't. Don't think I won't have you deported or get your crack smoking a$$ drug tested. " After a short silence.....he decided that my art video was pretty cool. |

Don't get me wrong. The guy is an outstanding mgr. Just losing track of the fact that off the clock he is an equal.

If you can't find a way to deal with them, start looking for another job.
You can't fire them and they aren't going to fire themselves. More likely they are going to fire you. So move on before you are taken out. Speaking from experience. Doesn't matter how great of an employee you have been, or how much you have given to your company. If the person above you doesn't like you, they WILL find a reason and way to get rid of you, and it usually will involve a smear campaign. Frankly, once I realized that, I moved on, and it turned out to be the best career move of my life. |

Negativity in the work place is prohibited it is in the HR manuels for all companies. You cannot be verbally or physically be abused on the job. In case of physical abuse call the police. In case of verbal abuse threaten a law suit.
If you end up quitting you still have scared the big bullies and it I have found it really works!! Employee's do have rights, read all you HR handouts and books. Go to HR and if needed call a lawyer. Find out who owns the companies or what group of people own the company. You can have a certain amount of fun with this. It is good to scare the bullies. |

Send them a fruitbasket. If that doesn't work, play duck and dodge, and always try to look busy.

even your boss has a boss...take it higher...thats what I did/do :D...oh and if that doesn't work there is always the 'hostile environment' that you can report to HR
