I want the Mingle2 patrons' views on the inadequacies of MMA "fighter" and cult personality "Kimbo Slice". Kimbo is best known for his dozens of "street brawls", captured for posterity on YouTube. The brief segments captured the fancy of teenagers and would-be street brawlers across the nation. Kimbo was quite successful in these encounters, winning all but one. The contests were held in backyards, parking lots, indoors, and elsewhere.

I have no personal animosity towards the guy. In fact, I like him as a person. He is intelligent, honest, and a hard worker. But, the difference between a gifted "street brawler" and a mixed martial artist fighting in the UFC can be measured in light years. Case in point, in the latest edition of "The Ultimate Fighter" reality series shown on 9/30/09, Kimbo was hopelessly outclassed and beaten by a guy with the physique of actor John Goodman. I was really pulling for him. But, neither he nor anyone else could transform themselves into a true martial artist in such a short time. We have got to face the music, Kimbo's only value in the industry lies in marketing gimmicks. I watched many of his YouTube bouts. But, I instinctively knew that backyard brawlers would be outmatched against dedicated martial artists. If further proof is needed, Kimbo was defeated by journeyman Seth Petrocelli in less than 15 seconds. The rapid defeat led to the immediate demise of that organization. Enough said.

I've just never been able to get into watching the MMA stuff. It seems to be one small step above "pro" wrestling.

And I DO like boxing, although because of the corruption of the sport, which includes the use of Pay Per View for the bigger fights, I don't follow it.

if Kimbo can hang then all power to him

if he can't, he can't

it shall be determined in the ring

I used to dig UFC in the days of Royce Gracie and Tank Abbott. but then they changed the rules to make it more palatable to the state commissions and it seems dull to me now. I don't like the time limit rounds and the stand up rule

Kimbo doesn't have the mental capacity to think past "punch in face" ... therefor he will NEVER be an MMA fighter nor will he ever be anything more that what he is already famous for.

Kimbo is a really good standup fighter...but his ground game is just awful. The dude sat on him through the entire fight, barely did any damage with the strikes he was landing, ref should have stood them up. Kimbo can do some damage if he learns a good ground game, but outside of that he is just a street fighter that doesn't know much about submissions or the ground...ultimately screwed in the UFC.

In his defense the dude sat on his arm...hardly anything worthy of UFC in my opinion, not like he used his "martial art magic" to beat Kimbo...he simply sat on him and feathered his head...

Kimbo doesn't have the heart to be a MMA fighter If he had heart he would have been training hard and came into the ring in shape. He's just milking it for all it's worth. By this time next year he will be gone.

did you really just say that? that dude is the hardest working in training beforea nd during the ultimate fighter..maybe you didnt see the same guy everyone else did. but that guy is in damn good shape..better shape that nearly anyone else in there. or right there with them.

and yeah whoever said that he was beat by pure mma, im laughing very hard right now. i would like to see anyone in the ufc with a contract get out of roy nelson laying on ur arm and body like that. not even lesnar could power his way out of that. and feathering his head, was a lil harsh, that was like someone patting your head good job.

and for the girl who seems to think that he has caveman mantality. me punch face..hes alot more than that. incase you didnt notice, roy nelson as they said, used to be a champion. he had defeated people who are flurishing in mma now. he stepped away and now is trying to make his way back. and he stopped roy's takedowns more than once before he got taken down. that shows he has been working on ground game and not his stand-up. and like the guy above me said, he has been training with att, which is a perfect camp for him to train in...this guy and how he used to fight wasnt prefered i agree.

but he has come to mma for the right reasons. hes trying to stop fighting in the streets, hes changed alot as a person. and its the narrow minded people with all the huge negitive comments that are makin it harder than it needs to be. if no one knew him from you tube, and just knew him as a guy that wants to try in mma, everyone would either love him, or just wish him well. to have all this bull **** negitive stuff towards a guy thats doing his best to take what he is doing off the streets and bring it to a place where its a better example, at the least realizing what he had been doing was stupid and wrong is a huge jump. give the guy some fricken slack.

In Dana White's own words "We (UFC) do not condone street fighting and we're not looking for anyone coming off the streets", according to his own words he is backpedaling bringing Kimbo into the octagon. Yes, Kimbo is a hard trainer and has been training hard since his invite into TUF, no, he is not ready for the UFC at this point. He has loads of training before he will be ready for the UFC, good that he is trying to stay off the streets and bring it to the octagon, but he has a very long road to go before he can do that substantially.
