Topic: Hidden in the immigration bill.

Eighteen months after the bill is enacted, employers would have to check
the documents of new hires through an electronic system that the
Homeland Security Department had set up. The agency also hopes to make
it possible for employers to check photos on immigrant documents to
prevent identity theft. Three years after the bill is enacted, employers
would have to run all of their workers, an estimated 140 million,
through the verification system. Employers found to have hired illegal
workers could be fined up to $5,000 per employee for a first offense.
Fines would rise to $75,000 per illegal worker for repeat offenses.
Employers could be sentenced for up to six months in jail for repeat
offenses. Under current law, employers can be fined up to $10,000 for
each illegal worker on their payroll.

Did you see it. Three years after the bill is enacted employers would
have to run ALL OF THEIR WROKERS, AN ESTIMATED 140 MILLION, through the
verification system. That same system that is controlled by HOMELAND
SECURITY.

Anyone else see a problem with this? Don't we allread have a system
that follows our employement by our SSN. Why do we need to run US
citizens also through an illegal police screen?

I smell big brother big time.

This isn't fear based. It is downright sneaky politics.

Like I said I wonder how many other small changes are 'hidden' in other
bills that have been recently handled by our congress.

..all the more reason to kill this monster bill...
they have an immigration bill from reagan years that
has never been implimented...but rather than follow
whats already on the books..they feel the need to
rewrite..amazing stupidity...huh

What bothers me about this is what they can do with it. Lets say you
move from Florida to Oregon. Homeland Security can check your move
through your employer. If they have a problem with you they could
blacklist you and your new employeer could refused you a job based on
their input.

Whats next. Perhaps they will make places like U-Haul do background
checks through Homeland Security for permission to rent what you need to
move.

Effective control of population. Effective limit on freedom. Effective
permit system without warning people a permit is required.

How many other bills have hidden things like this?

From what I have been reading there is also a possible provision to
allow Homeland Security to track gun owners.

Is this true?

did 9/11 ever cross your mind or what?noway I stand and applaud
homeland security. Firearms are already tracked by the ATF. Having a
federal firearms license i sorta know this personally. Is there any safe
and secure way to track firearms? illegals? Hell no. I dont see any
conspiracy but i did wake up free this morning as an american.drinker

What has 9/11 got to do with this.

If I want to pack up and move in say 4 years what business is this of
Homland Security. I am not a risk to the Consititution of the United
States.

Have you actually READ the USA PATRIOT ACT.

It is one of the most comprenhesive attacks against freedom in this
country I have seen in a long time.

You go right on waving the flagpole of 'I woke up free today' one day
you will look up and realise the flagpole has no flag.

Some FBI descriptions of possible Domestic Terrorists.

1. Vocal 'defenders' of the US Constitution.
2. People that make 'numerous' mentions of the US Constitution.
3. People whe refuse to identify themselves.
4. People who 'watchdog' or attempt to 'police' the official police
forces.
5. Animal Rights Activitists
6. Cults
7. People who's political activities include marxist/lenininist
ideologies.
8. People who spend a lot of time by themselves. 'Lone Individuals'.

If you come under one of these heading you can be detained without
warrent, held without communication, have all your property confiscated
and are exepmpt from 'due process'.

on your tail and proclaim.............

I would be laughing if it wasnt so sad.

AB,

Perhaps I'm not understanding this fully but doesn't the immigration
bill refer only to persons/workers in immigration or worker visa status
and not U.S. citizens? If this is the case then it would provide
justification for the development and implementation of the Alien
Employment Management System.

I'm not sure it's the best way to do things but I don't believe it's a
secondary method to track U.S. citizens. It does however make sense to
have those employers hire only legal immigrants and pay them a fair
wage. It seems to protect jobs for U.S. Citizens and protect immigrant
workers from exploitation.

Let me know what you think. Jerry

Most employers already do a criminal background check on employees
now!!!Dont they? I have one right here, that FED EX just did. Ive been
waiting for it since applying for a part-time job 2 wks. ago!!!

Whats the difference???? They already do it, and this one is looking to
see if your a citizen, or have already been caught before trying to
enter the country illegaly. 2 times is 20 yrs under this plan...And 2
times caught hiring illegals is 6 months and $70,000 bucks per illegal
employee.

There was a chicken processing plant near here that got raided a few
years ago. One of those big agricultural corporations. Caught 10 people
using the same ID papers. They deported the 10 (as well as others) and
did nothing to the employer. The company claimed they had no idea. Just
food for thought.

GaMail50...the reason they did not "do anything" to the employers, is
because as long as they have their I-9's on file for each individual
employee, there is no "fault" on their part. They are not responsible
for "checking" documents, only taking copies of them. Some businesses do
not have the capability of researching their employees, nor do they care
to.

I am not condoning being illegal nor hiring them with full knowledge
that they are. I've worked in Immigration law for a few years and at
this point in time, am neither going to go "pro" nor "con" with this
subject. Illegal Immigration happens every day, and not just from
Mexico. You'd be surprised with the amount of Immigrants from "other"
countries who are here. I know I sure was.

1984 is not around the corner in my opinion. I think the gov't has too
much time on its hands, but I do not think they have enough time on
their hands to personally ruin the lives of the majority of citizens by
hounding them through their daily lives.

I think they are too tough on employers already, and a jail term for
hiring the wrong person seems pernicious. Hell, when I get a good
employee I am happy, no matter who they are or where they come from.

I live in Houston though. My shop is a very international one. There are
about 8 languages spoken here. Each person has some sort of green card
story to tell. Everyone is here legally. I will keep my mouth shut about
the details since some of you might be faint of heart.

The bill, over a thousand pages is unlikely to have been read by any of
the politicians promoting it or opposing it. I wonder if that is what
makes us a free market economy. Chuckling about my little joke here.

Each time I hear new details about the bill I grow more concerned. I
think it needs to go down. I think it needs to be rewritten, preferably
not by a foreigner or a multinational.

After the law goes in effect employeers have 18 month to report new
hires that fall with in the profile of immigration.

After the law has been in effect employeers must report on EVERY
EMPLOYEE (that would be you and me). I wonder if this is a yearly
reporting requirement.
