I'm from an era where people dressed to suit the occasion. To church I wore a dress with 50 petticoats, gloves and a hat. But people had more respect back then.

There was a lot more respect back then, and I guess that's a large part of it.

I would also venture to say that we were a much more proud nation at that time. Perhaps that was a reason for some of the respect we upheld.

People today have too much and care too little. I think a big part of it is how our communcaiton has evolved, or things to distract us from communicating.

It just makes sense.. that one would be more respectful if he was having to deal with people for socialization and to get his laughs, etc..

more so than the guy who sits in front of a 65-inch LCD television on a PlayStation 3, or the one who sends text messages always, rather than speaking to someone or going around the corner to talk in person.

a lot of technology took place of social gatherings, sports, dancing, etc. people can have fun without being around another person for weeks at a time now. and when you see less people, you respect less.

----------------DISCLIAIMER--------------
I DUNNO ITS 5:00AM.. maybe what I just wrote sounds like drivel. if it makes sense to anyone, let me know.. if not.. maybe I'll try and clarify later.

Perfect sense.

I think an easier way of saying it was to say that we depended more on people back then to have a good time and get things done. With machinery and computers, we can tell someone to f*** off and not worry about it -- the computer will do that pesky little accounting job, etc. you know?

We need people less, so we don't regard them the same anymore.

Back in the 60's when "hot pants" became so popular I had a real cute dress that buttoned all the way down the front and the hem came just to the hem on the hot pants. I saved it and have it in my closet wrapped up. 'Course it's a size 5 and now I'm a....well, times change. I also saved a cocktail dress from '64.

I'm not sure how old this is, but I've always wanted to wear one of those hats that are roundish on top with a very small curved brim. I think they are called derbys?

Ese,

that'd be a homburg or a derby, yeah

different styles of a fedora.

NY Hatco has some

of course, I prefer vintage hats from the 40s and 50s..
and there are much better hat makers, than NY Hatco.

you can buy from NY Hatco at:
http://www.newyorkhatcotogo.com/

the prices are decent. if you really want one, I'd buy it and then if you like it.... go get a custom made one from Optimo Hatters in Chicago or google "Art Fawcett" who makes custom hats for people too. Very few decent hatters left in the US.
