PERFECT sense to me. If today's people had to fight WWII we would be speaking Japanese or German. Nobody does anything out of their comfort zone. "I won't wear a dress. I'd rather die." Or "A jacket and a tie?? Eff 'em!"
I have to tell you that you look so respectable and dashing dressed the way you are. flowerforyou

I've always believed that, all things being equal (technology, training, physical conditioning), if you put the guys who fought WWII against the guys fighting our wars today? The guys born in the 20's would be the victors.

And I respect all our military personnel, before one of you reads this and gets pissed off.. I just think that there was a certain mentality and mindset in the 40's amongst our soldiers that is not there today, and this aforementioned mindset would get these guys through to victory in a battle against the boys today.

I dated a girl who was my age, we went through highschool together. For 5 and a Half years of dating, not once did she wear a dress or a skirt. At the time I did not care, but today, there's a certain femininity involved there, that I would like my future ladies to have someplace.

I thank you, although I can not for the life of me remember what I was wearing a black shirt and red tie for. Haha. I know the white shirt/blue tie pic (taken before I shaved) was for my NYPD interviews. I wouldn't wear black and red to such a thing, as red is way too loud against black for that situation. And that's not just a "style" thing, but those NYPD recruiters will pick you out of the crowd and make a fool out of you if you stand out like that.

This conversation reminds me of when I was going through all the NYPD recruitment stuff. A kid in line had his shirt untucked and his tie loose. (We were standing in line for over an hour on the 17th floor of a building with no air conditioning in August). A lieutenant told him "Tuck your shirt in and fix your tie" and he responded "yea". Well.. I need not detail the yelling/screaming when he responded in such a manner, but I will say he ended up at the back of this line, and answered YES SIR in a clear, firm tone of voice from then on.

We're missing that today. Even among these police officers, once they get out of the academy, a lot seems to fall apart with the new generation. But then again, people don't respect the police anymore, so why should they really keep trying to be respectful of us? There's the whole "Set an Example" routine, but I'm not buying it.

And we need not worry about Japanese or German.. the way this Gov't is owing money to them, we'll be all speaking CHINESE soon enough! :)

I just recently received two unblieveable cool gowns, 1930's from Germany. I doubt if anyone except those that know vintage would even know, they just look like beautiful evening gowns.Much detail and art deco hand embrroidery. They are cut small but I am fairly small so no problem with fit.
I hope to wear one one of these days. A trained eye would know they are very well made vintage.
Both look like they made never have been worn but kept in a chest for safe keeping.

Congratulations on your purchase!!

I've got to go get myself something really cool, and real soon.

I'm waiting on my forum account at The Fedora Lounge to be activated so I can ask some of the expert clothiers and hatters on there some questions before I embark on the journey, though. I hope that comes through, soon!

I think today, unless your going to a themed party, or a themed club, this has to be brought across in a subtle way, in pieces, and maybe some classic pieces that are still workable today.

Ive seen these kids goto their prom in the hat, and the long chain in the watch, and the black, and white shoes, and the tails, and the pin stripes.. (usually in white)..the whole "daddy-o" look, its silly as hell, if ya walk around looking like you are in a costume its rediculous.. best to incorperate those pieces with some of todays fashions.. it has to be done right.

If ya go all the way.. its gotta be cool, or you look like a dork in their own world.

I think that may be why we have renaissance fairs, but the idea is so fun, i agree.

Well, you need to have an ability to pull it off. And with the stuff I'm interested in, you have to pull it all off, you know? I'm pretty good at pulling things off. (IM NOT BEING SEXUAL. lol it sounds so, a bit tho)

I was once able to walk around in a World War 2 Uniform, and people all thought I was in the Army. lmao. Kinda funny when I think about it. I was in the mall with this thing, and a girl in a store asked me what I was in. "Army Air Corps" i responded. And she was all "Army Air Corps.. I never heard of that?" and I walked away thinking.. "Yeah, because it's not existed since 1947.. " LMAO.

But young boys can't really pull off the "Monopoly Guy" look. I agree the tails and top hat and stuff looks ridiculous *on a baby-face*. I'm very conscious of how I look, which is why getting on the website that I mentioned so frequently and having some questions answered is important to me before I buy. I want to talk to some people who wear these things everyday and get a better understanding of what works, and what doesn't, you know?

And I don't go to clubs, just for the record. :)

Yeah, I dont do clubs either,.. well or drink for that matter.

Im actually like a real 50s housewife as I always say...

Anyway.. well you pull it off well, the whole gig.. i noticed from what you are wearing in your current default pic that you have style.

I think i emailed you a while back, but you never answered.. that, or.. i just thought about it.

Anyway.. you seem to pull it off well as I can see. I love the gangster movies, and I recognise those clothes are pretty classic, and timeless. Love them.. sexy paired with the right cologne.. *swoon* Reminds me of how my uncle dressed, and his friends at his piano bar "Palugis" in Baltimore.

There is an appeal to the simple, masculine, well dressed man whos all business. *sgh* thats rare these days unfortunately.

Well, I drink, but only for the occasion. A wedding, a ballgame, a graduation, the 4th of July or seeing a friend I've not seen in a long time.. but that's the extent of it, really. There's an exception very rarely, but those exceptions are almost inconceivable.

I just e-mailed you.. I dunno if you got it, go check it out.

People with "Stealth Mode" seem to not get my mails, unless I reply to something they sent me 1st. I dunno what's up with it. I'll report it to some administrators or someone later, I guess.

Anyway.. to keep on topic here, one of the things I mentioned in my mail to you (which I've re-sent) was about those aprons on Anthroplogie's site. Did you find any other vintage based clothing on there you like? I think their dresses are pretty good looking, more "taken-in" at the waist for the older-fashioned hourglass look..

I have to use my treadmill. I moved back to Texas and have been eating Moms cooking, and have been out of work. I am starting my own business, and i am getting myself back on the ball.

I LOOK like a Mom right now.. LOL now maybe people will believe me. (allthough my pics are current)

I like this.. the frilly shirts are just pukey in my opinion.. im not a frill frill. I like feminine fashions.. but frill.. no.

The regular shirts would be good for work. I like the plain to a degree, but not for all the time.

You do realize you committed the mortal sin in forum posting by posting yourself back to back not 2 or 3, but 4 times, right? LOL :)

You're seriously going to hell now. haha..

I like the little tunic you picked out, pretty stylish. I dunno about frilly stuff either, but I'm sure it can look right on the right person, and yeh, I can't imagine you with frill myself. :)

BTW the sweater link didn't come through correctly, which one on there were you talking about?

Juz tell me the name of it, lol.. linking sucks with these kinds of websites.. :)

AND YOU'RE NOT FAT.

LOL I am SOOO not finding what you're talking about as far as this tunic goes.

perhaps one day someone will show me the light on the issue. until then I'll just trust your sense of style and say "I'm sure it's nice"

Tunic nothing! I'm not good at shopping for women's clothing. I wouldn't really recognize a feminine tunic if one slapped me in the face.

I'll look later, I guess haha..

I'm from an era where people dressed to suit the occasion. To church I wore a dress with 50 petticoats, gloves and a hat. But people had more respect back then.

There was a lot more respect back then, and I guess that's a large part of it.

I would also venture to say that we were a much more proud nation at that time. Perhaps that was a reason for some of the respect we upheld.

People today have too much and care too little. I think a big part of it is how our communcaiton has evolved, or things to distract us from communicating.

It just makes sense.. that one would be more respectful if he was having to deal with people for socialization and to get his laughs, etc..

more so than the guy who sits in front of a 65-inch LCD television on a PlayStation 3, or the one who sends text messages always, rather than speaking to someone or going around the corner to talk in person.

a lot of technology took place of social gatherings, sports, dancing, etc. people can have fun without being around another person for weeks at a time now. and when you see less people, you respect less.

----------------DISCLIAIMER--------------
I DUNNO ITS 5:00AM.. maybe what I just wrote sounds like drivel. if it makes sense to anyone, let me know.. if not.. maybe I'll try and clarify later.

Perfect sense.
