So, what does everyone think? I ask the question as I found a pretty good show about it on the history channel last night, and was just curious as to what others think?

well i have heard and listened to a few of the theories but only one seems plausable the one involving a solar flare. but other than that i could honestly care less. the human race needs something to be afraid of so they can forget that the have kind of pointless lives and the people that come up with these theories are right in line to make money off of those fears. and besides dying the next biggest would be dying with everyone. hence the bring about of the end of the world theories. but i could be very wrong. and in that case i have a little over 2 years to stalk up on supplies to ready myself to die with everyone else.

2012 end of times? Yea or nay..explanations welcome

I just finished reading a large chapter in a spiritual book about the various mythologies associated with the major cycles and stages of creation. They all predict various different things.

The 2012 date comes mainly from my mayan myth. If that particular myth is true then the so-called 'end times' will actually be a new beginning. It's not an end but rather a transistion. It will be a transistion from our current state of blindness into a spiritual state of awareness. So if that myth is true, then it's something to look forward to. It will be the dawn of a far better age.

Other myths from around the world vary. Some have us doing into a darker age yet that will be worse than our current age. Some myths have cycles that go back and forth between bad times and good times, in those myths it's not sure whether the next age will plunge us deeper into worse times, or bring us up a level to better times because no one know where we're at in the cycle. (That's a pretty safe prophecy laugh)

None of them have it as an actual 'doomsday' end of the world so I'm not sure where that even comes from.

Most likely it will just be yet another myth that is totally empty and devoid of any ontological truth. If I had to place money on it I would bet that 2012 will come and go just like any other year.

On the other hand, if I could buy a myth I'd buy the Mayan myth and we'd all become spiritually awakened in 2012 and life would become truly magickal and it would be the start of something far better than what we're currently experiencing.

How it ever became a 'doomsday' myth is beyond me. From what I've read it will either be something good, or it just won't happen at all.

Right ... and this transitions say "end of the time " but the time astro- period which Mayans divided like similar periods of zodiac and their beliefs includes the end of this period" written time" and beginning of new " times"
2012 will be the same like 2003 which Nostradamus said that will be end of the world and will start with destruction of Vatican and death of Pope ... so ..

what will be next date ?

There is nothing about this date being "the end of the world"..

People have come up with their own theories based on their own perception..

There is also talk of a thing called “Galactic Alignment” occurring on that date. However, from Wikipedia… (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_phenomenon)

The alignment in question is not exclusive to 2012 but takes place over a 36-year period, corresponding to the diameter of the Sun, with the most precise convergence having already occurred in 1998.[33]

So there is really not even any precise correspondence at all to any significant cosmological event.

2012 end times is BS. A bunch of people got all worked up about the ending of the millennium, and the y2k bug, and when nothing happened they all jumped onto the 2012 ship.

I used to make a hobby of talking to random crazy people who hang out in public areas - one of them tried to convince me that 2012 was 'the end' based on some BS regarding the shifting of the poles (which does happen) and how we are do for another pole shift (which may be true, I don't know), and how a pole shift coincides with a slippage of the crust against the mantle (which strikes me as total BS) and how 'they' (scientists) can predict this precisely to the day, month, and year of when the next massage crust slip is going to happen (with worldwide earthquakes and tidal waves).

Amidst all the BS were an interesting collection of scientifically accurate tidbits regarding geology, physics, climatology. I thought it was pretty cool that people like him were getting so excited about pseudoscience which contained so much actual science.

I tried to approach the conversation with "Okay, lets suppose all of this you said is true, how can they predict it to the exact day?" and he quickly sunk into a bizarre illogical, nonsensical quagmire while adamant that it was definitely known to be an exact day.

I was sad. Up to that point, such a large proportion of his delusion had been self-consistently-logical and somewhat science based.

If time is a man made illusion.....

and a calender making culture stopped making calenders....

and the day that is the last one in their calender happens to be in this life time...

....isn't that just the end of a man made illusion?

I'll be here until I am not here anymore...

that's enough for me...

THIS right now is enough.

perhaps what is meant by "end of times" is end of times, as WE know it...a period of enlightenment maybe?....or maybe nothing at all...and what a disapointment that would be...(((LORIflowers )))
