I'm considering moving away from my family and home country to study at a different university.

I was hoping those of you who have done this, or who would be otherwise knowledgeable about such a step could tell me about some pros and cons.

Well, you would further your education, not sure if you would be more comfortable in the setting or not. Being away from family is a pro in my eyes, but could be a con in your eyes. New social setting, have to make new friends unless you already know some where you are planning on going. Differing government, different laws and rules would apply...even works that way moving from state to state, one state doesn't mind you smoking a joint the other state puts you in prison...such is life.

Moved around in the military. It's an adventure. Things may be a little different now but still much the same. Computers and all the new communication stuff helps you keep in touch with friends and family but you'll still miss them. New foods, new sites, new language maybe, new friends. Keep an open mind. Be careful. You're young I think you'll love it.
