Ok you can't see it that well but those dots on it's back are red... Doesn't resemble any black widow I have ever seen. It looks like a jumping spider to me. I imagine they bite but not poisonous as far as I know. |

FINE JOY YOU WIN... but there's no way she could have known it was a jumping spider, she's just a SPAZ!
Besides that it was under the ledge of her back patio wall attempting to eat a bug bigger than it was. It was not very big and I really didn't see that it was physically possible to launch itself out 2 feet vertically and attack me and my blackberry! Spiders don't scare/bother me unless they happen to be crawling on or biting me! |

BTW This is definately what it is because I even commented on its bright green pinchers...
Bold jumping spider The jumping spiders, Family Salticidae, are bold daytime hunters with acute vision. The bold jumping spider, Phidippus audax, is a grassland and prairie species and a common predator of many crop pests. These spiders are mostly black, and typically the top of the abdomen has a rather large white to red central spot and a pair of smaller posterior spots. The chelicerae are metallic green. |

I think I have seen the brown recluse before, how big are they? Brown recluses are about the size of a quarter. We have a problem with them in St. Louis...well, Missouri. My Dad has been bitten two separate times and has required surgery both times. |

That's a pretty 'meaty' black widow. The ones I have seen around here look more wirey on the legs.
I've found 5 or 6 brown recluses in my mother's house over the last 2 months. Their bite can be really nasty, but they usually try to stay away from you. The problem is, they like to climb in to hidden areas (adn sometimes clothes) and when you got there and they can't easily get away, they will bite. And they are FAST too. Here's a cool spider I saw over the weekend. The fence makes it look smaller than it is. I'd say it was a good 3" from top to bottom. |

You need two things. The first is a broom to brush it off the wall. The second is a flat shovel to put it out of it's ugliness!
