Politics amuse me. It seems it's all about wearing and defending your label and attacking and degrading someone else's label. Especially if your label has, for the moment, fallen out of power or favor.

I'm just now starting to understand what the labels "Liberal" and "Conservative" mean. They're not set in stone..... more like semi-solid. Maybe even "gooey". Just when I think I'm getting it, they change. Here's the way I think I understand them.

Liberal:
Everything is broken and needs to be changed right now. Nothing is fair. If I don't have enough money, it's because the rich people have unfairly and unscrupulously tilted the board so it all goes to them. Just take all the money and give it out evenly to everyone. In fact I want everything handed to me. I'm entitled. It's not my fault I wasn't born wealthy. It's not my fault that my teachers didn't teach me enough to go make something better of myself. It's not my fault. And it's not fair. Oh, but if I do have plenty of money, then just distribute everyone else's and let me keep my own. I worked hard for mine. But everyone else needs a handout. And I'll take some too, while we're at it. I'm entitled. And if people in other countries want to kill us and attack us, well it's not their fault. We're big meanies and deserve most of what we get.

Conservative:
Don't change anything. I don't care if the system is broken or unfair.... I just want to come home everyday and relax knowing that nothing has changed. Everything today is exactly the same as it was yesterday. If I'm rich, I want to keep all of it, even it came from exploiting litte girls in Malaysia or by making a killing on stock trades that might have been based on some 'advanced notice'. Just let me continue to shelter it or hide it in banks offshore. Those of you who don't have money should have paid attention in school. Or at least been born to wealthy parents who could give you theirs and teach you how to hide it. And if I don't have money, it must have been God's will. Oh, and lets go bomb everyone that doesn't agree with me. They look different. And if we allow them to be different, they might change things. I don't want anything to change.

different label mean different things to different people. I try to never use connotative labels.

some connotative labels that evoke an emotional response,

Gun Control (isnt it strange how the right to bear arms was once a liberal stance and now it has become a conservative issue?)

Pro-Choice

Pro-Life

Pro-War

NeoCon

Progressive

Religious Right

Well that is certainly the negative view and often embarrassingly true, but I also think that over the years extremists on both sides have taken over. Of course I think that would happen no matter what group we had in there. That is the sad not so complicated truth that you have presented.

it is sort of a good assessment except when you describe the cure . a liberal well cure it by replacing the people who are working with no regard to what happens to the people that they replace . instead of finding out how to help the people get up in life with out destroying others . so we go threw life hating each other .

The true minority is the group of people that don't agree with anyone.
