Blatantly ignoring Immigration Law and Illegally using undocumented labor to rebuild New Orleans. They have been since Katrina. Can't they find enough US Citizens to do those jobs? New Orleans Mayor Reaffirms City's Sanctuary Policy. On Wednesday, September 9, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and Police Superintendent Warren Riley announced that city police officers will not ask crime victims or witnesses about their immigration status. The announcement highlighted the most recent in a string of city policy changes meant to accommodate a growing illegal alien population in New Orleans. Superintendent Riley estimated that between 20,000 and 60,000 illegal aliens now reside in New Orleans. In announcing the sanctuary policy, Riley noted that the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) has already made several "reforms" to accommodate the city's growing illegal alien population, including the Department's creation of a "Hispanic community liaison." The NOPD also provides 26 officers with the ability to serve as translators for Spanish-speaking individuals, and approximately 350 of the NOPD's officers have been sent to Spanish language classes. |

I am anti illegal immigration, however, I do believe that you will deter people from reporting crimes if they are scared of deportation.In areas that are high in immigrants, that can have detrimental affects.

Im married to a guy who got here illegally. He was legal by the time I married him. I also work where 85 percent of our customers are Hispanic. I see examples of legals getting screwed over everyday. I sell insurance and the nonstandard companies that we work with will sell insurance to anybody, With or without a dl or even an Id. So they go out and drive cars that are not in there name then wreck them and run. We see it everyday. But since they had insurance the other car gets paid for. Thats great for the other guy but that in turn makes everybody else insurance higher. And dont get me started on all the Women in the Wic and Foodstamp lines lying about being single so they can get foodstamps. Then they walk out and jump in there Escalade or Expedition and drive off. Its ridiculous.
