Someone requested an IM with me tonight and I was surprised by it. I didn't even know the site had IM. How do you activate it - I don't see a link? Thanks

It's automatically on your profile under your main pic, and would be on theirs with a couple other orange boxes, unless they have turned it off in their settings.

Thank you! Just want to say this is the first time I've used a site that has this type of forums and I'm enjoying them - most here are nice, and very entertaining!

Welcome to Mingle2, MacGirl50. In addition to the replies above, you can read more about the IM feature here:
http://mingle2.com/welcome/help (scroll down a bit)

I do want to add that it's possible for another user to have this feature enabled but for you not to see the 'Instant Message' button in his/her profile. If a user is in Stealth mode, this will be the case. The upshot of this is that it won't be possible to initiate an IM session with a person who's in Stealth mode, even if he/she has IM enabled.

Thank you! Your reply brings another question. What's stealth mode? I understand the concept, just not how you get on the site in stealth?

I'll just quote the confirmation page, since it sums Stealth up nicely:

Stealth Mode allows you to browse other profiles on the site without letting them know you are interested. In Stealth Mode, the following features are enabled:

* You will not be shown as "Online" to other users
* Other users will not know when you view their profile
* Other users will not know when you add them as a favorite

The drawback is that you will get fewer responses from other members in Stealth Mode because they won't know you are interested. We recommend against remaining in Stealth Mode for long periods of time as you will end up meeting less people as a result.

You can turn it on and off here, by the way:

Ok, this helps me too, lol. I am usually in stealth, and I told someone that is how they would know I was online, they would see the IM box, even if it was blank after my headline...I guess not.slaphead That would explain why they said they couldn't see it. Thanks.
