Standin here petrified
Mouth dry
Take a sip of water
Start my reading
First words slip easily past my lips
Continue on
Reading my words
Written in ink
Sealed with blood
Finish my first piece
They applaud
Standing still
Haven't hurled all over anyone yet
But they stare
I grow ever more nervous
Do I have spinach in my teeth??
How could that be
I haven't eaten any
Am I naked, did I forget to get dressed
Look down dummy
Check make sure
Looking down
Oh yes dressed
Oh I know waiting for me to begin again
I start my second piece
Fumble at little at first
Not reading from my papers
Just letting it flow from memory
Pause for dramatic effect
Continue on
Words ebb and flow
Melding together
My pitch perfect
Start my third and final piece
Knees no longer weak
Feeling strong
I can survive
Coming to the end
My final word said
Thunder erupts
Feet stamping and stomping
Whistles and shouts
Hands clapping together mightily
All in praise of me
My words, thoughts, dreams and hopes
Who knew it would become this
Just a simple gurl of words
Speaking her part....



***This piece was inspired by the running commentary I had in my head
during my most recent Poetry reading,
I read some of my work this past Friday at a local coffee shop, at the
invitation of the shop owner.***

*Stands up and applauds*
