My MS optical mouse 5000 must have some grunge in the big scrolling wheel as it doesn't turn smoothly anymore. I went to the MS website but couldn't find a manual or instructions to clean the wheel.

Anybody know how to get the wheel apart. I hate to start prying on the stupid thing. The old track balls needed cleaning often. This device can't be that much different.

Wireless I take it?

Just use some of that Dust Spray crap they sell at Wal-Mart.

I have some of that but the problem is crap down in the bearing. I presume it is just like the dust and junk that collected in the bearings of a trackball. I just don't know how to take it apart without prying on the plastic parts.

I have one like it and you would have to take the four plastic feet off of it and I believe that the srews are under them. You can try to fix it because if you break it while fixing it won't hurt because you will have to buy a new one anyway.

I just pried one of the feet off. It didn't have a screw under it.

There don't appear to be any screws anywhere. Something snaps apart.

This is what I do

But I am sure you may not have access to the equipment in which case take it to a jewelers and ask them to do this

You need an ultrasonic bath
Fill the chamber with alcohol (Industrial grade ethanol alcohol)
switch on the bath and throw the mouse in and leave it for 10 minutes. The mouse must be totally immersed and if it has batteries they should be taken out and if it has a connection to the computer it must be disconnected. take it out leave it for 10 minutes for the residue of alcohol to evaporate it will be good as new
