I used to work as a vet technician. A little old lady would bring her old Chihuahua, "Coco", every month for a checkup. Coco was like a land-locked pirahna! He would always manage to escape, and I would have to wear welding gloves for protection, but the little %*#&$*!!! would bite clear through them, anyway.
The lady would always tell us the story of how Chihuahuas roamed in packs in Mexico, and often brought down cattle, devouring them in a matter of minutes!laugh laugh laugh laugh

I know there are different kinds of bulldogs, I know the English bulldog seems very friendly and non-aggressive. There are other types of bulldogs, not sure of all the types, maybe someone else here knows the different types?

I'd trust either of them more than some people I know. One thing about a dog it's not going to BS ya.

a pit bull isnt really bull dog

its a form of Staffordshire Terrier, known as a Bull Terrier

its actually in the terrier family

Any of the pittie breeds.

Daytime, an English bulldog isn't part of the pitties. They fall differently. You may be thinking of the bull terriers like the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, etc. Which are a couple of pittie types. The various pits are all terriers in some form or fashion.

I live wayyyy out in the country. people shoot pitbulls on site here because the owners from the city dump em. They get em as a pup then don't train them and when they realize what they have done they don't have the balls to have them put down. I've seen what they can do to calves and the like. to bad but thats the way it is here.

 They mix the staffordshire terrier with bull dogs and other breeds to come up with the pitt bulls we know today.

Pitts are only as dangerous as the owners make them. With the few exceptions that have to apply to all animals that are crazy for no apparent reason.

I would always prefer a bigger dog over the little ones, they annoy me for some reason, I think it is their little shrill bark.

I know there are different kinds of bulldogs, I know the English bulldog seems very friendly and non-aggressive. There are other types of bulldogs, not sure of all the types, maybe someone else here knows the different types?

English Bulldog, French Bulldog
Bulldog "types":
1) Bullmastiff (I had one named, "Cletus"; 120# of solid rock; shoulder about knee-high; excellent temperament; docile, yet dragon-fierce when appropriate; quiet unless truly alerted; would be GREAT with kids if raised to be, as they don't feel pain as readily as other dogs, and would be far more patient as a "bean bag" for playing children; intolerant to extremes of both heat and cold; EXCELLENT HOUSE DOG, despite their size [couch potato]; I MISS HIM!)
2) There are the pitbulls, a mixture of terrier and bulldog.
3) There are the "Molossus" breeds (Rotts, Dogue de Bordeaux ["Turner and Hooch"...French version of a Bullmastiff; a Bullmastiff is British), Olde English Mastiff, Cane Corso, Canary Dog (Presa de Canario), etc.
To immediately spot a dog with bulldog blood, look for the "pump handle" tail, "apple-shaped" head, heavy "flews" (the flesh hanging down on either side of the lower jaw), and heaviness of the jaw.
If you're "in the market" for a bulldoggie-type, the Bullmastiff would be very hard to beat...much better choice than an English Bulldog. It is truly cruel for English Bulldogs to continue to be bred...they often lead lives of suffering, due to their exaggerated skeletal structure, short snouts (breathing); over-wide chests (heart problems)...I could go on and on. Your expensive vet would love for you to purchase an English Bulldog.
In fact, there had been talk among AKC circles to breed the current English with the Bullmastiff, as the resulting animal would be far healthier. Here is a video which demonstrates their intelligence, commonly attributed only to German Shepherds, Border Collies, Poodles, etc.
Chi-chis (got tired of spelling, "Chihuahua") tend to be nervous and snappy, as, being smaller, they tend to be thrown around the room by children who cannot yet tell the difference between a stuffed animal, and a living thing.

GREAT WITH KIDS, THOSE BULLMASTIFFS:
