Does this imply that you used to be a war monger and you've "changed"?

If not, then what do you even mean by 'becoming the change we want to see'?

How can you become something that you already are?

My sister was a very non-violent anti-war person from her very earily childhood. She even became a vegitarian in her early teens because she didn't want to contribute to harming animals.

She unfortunately married a very abusive man who made her life miserable for 25 years before she finally divorced him. Wars, violence and crime have been going on all around her for her entire life.

How can she become the 'change' she wants to see? She was innately that 'change' from the day she was born. No 'change' required.

Yet the world she lived in was still hostile and ruthless.

So what do you even mean when you say that we need to 'become' the change we want to see in the world. From my point of view that just sounds like you're accusing everyone cart blanch of being the "problem".

I don't see it that way at all. I think there are a lot of nice people in this world. And there are a lot of jerk. The nice people have no effect on the jerks. Sad but true.

You're not going to change the jerks by simply being nice. It doesn't work that way. If it did the whole world would already be nice because there are far more nice people in the world than there are jerks. You can take that to the bank!

If it were the other way around this world would be a hell of a lot worse than it is today.

I am of the belief of approach an adversary with an olive in one hand and a rifle in the other. If they throw down the olive branch offered them then shoot at them with the bullets in the rifle aimed at their heart.

For as draconian as this may sound, make peace or be killed!

That is the only reason humans seem to understand in general.

Diplomacy only works when both sides can talk to one another but then again when diplomacy breaks down you had better be ready to fight or die. There is no middle ground to this argument.

I was never a "war-monger"..but yes I have changed from the person I was 25 years ago.. I work on constant change. I don't want to be a stuffy old person, set in my ways and closed minded..with a my way or the highway mentality. You read Deepak, you know perfectly well what I mean by that statement.. if you want to bring up points for argument sake you'll have to find someone else.. I am not up for it today I don't feel so good.

I have made no accusations. I stated I do what works for me. I responded to the op's question, I sleep at night. As a parent I have a responsibility to teach my sons, and I choose to teach them to live peacefully.

Maybe your sister was tired of the peacefulness and needed some drama..I can not speak concerning her. You know her, I don't. All I can say on that is I'm sorry she has to go through that, I watched it growing up and it is a tough gig.

Thank you all for your replies .Yes I believe that peace can be achieved in the world with proper education that emphasizes humanism, pacifism and non violent reactions .Our planet earth is huge and it provides numerous resources of people . In over populated nations, birth control is a must . People have the power if they want to use it consciously : elect only those who are honest, peaceful, just and neither greedy nor selfish .Education always starts at home and school and children should be educated about peace and tolerance everywhere . The children of today are the presidents, prime ministers and kings of the future.

Anyway, my point is history has already dis-proven this whole women in charge = no war theory.

Exactly, by nature we are war-like. If you would like to end wars against other humans, we need another force to serve as a common enemy. This is one of the many reasons I am hoping for life on other planets. :P

SARS, HIV,Swine flu, am sure they, or something as yet unknown will resolve the issue. Kinda reminds me of a line from a Monty Python song "and pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space 'cause there's bugger all down here on earth"

Well if the goal is killing the human race off, can't we do something better and faster than disease? I think War is the cure for war. If we kill each other off then finally the world will be at peace.

Just one person? A lone nut is barely going to be noticed, let alone recognized. I think something with a little more boom is required.

There is absolutely no scientific evidence that humans are by nature war like .If we all work for peace we should be able to achieve peace everywhere .

Perhaps no Scientific evidence, but I have plenty of Legal precedence that suggests that we are all selfish angry children who could never stand to go without conflict. We've been trying to kill each other since the beginning of mankind. I don't have any delusion that such a fact will ever change.

Not to be blasphemous, but there was a guy who once said it sure would be nice if we would just stop killing each other for once and they nailed him to a cross.

People have resolved to the idea that "it has always been this way" so they see no hope. If enough people wanted change, we could absolutely change things.

Until each living person realizes that they cannot change the whole world but only them. then and maybe only then do we have a small chance (very small) of stopping violence.
