My opinion is that there is too much media telling us or subtley pressuring women in how we're "supposed" to look, act or be in order to be attractive, desirable or good enough. I, for one, don't buy into it and have taught my daughter the same. We all have **** to deal with on a daily basis without having to be bombarded by the need to obssess about meeting some sort of stupid standard that has been set for us by others that are meaningless in our lives.

This is true....it's always been that way. I hope todays woman knows better, and is happy to be who she is.

I agree.. and having a teenage girl this is so troubling.. she sees all the little girls, and the so called "PERFECT" ones and.. this bothers her when she feels she dont add up....I think shes beautiful as shes is..And wouldnt change a thing about her,her red hair, blue eyes, height shes tall any of it....I'm short,mulit-colored eyes..long multi colored hair..just diferent.never fit in anywhere ..sorta like her..well I have always liked that..Hope she does to...

Doesn't matter if you fit in or not. Your uniqueness is what makes you, well......unique. Waaaay better than looking like you came off an assembly line.

It's the "Let other people do your thinking for you" mentality that pervades so much of modern life.

I have always wondered how it is that some guy in Paris can say "Next fall, women will be wearing orange and purple shoes," and millions of women will immediately run out to buy orange and purple shoes.

And it's not just the women that fall into this mindset....

You have to do certain things, be a certain way, think a certain way, in order to fit in.

Those of us who ask WHY orange and purple shoes, well, we just don't fit in....

But sheep are easier to control, easier to keep in line. Sheep don't ask questions....right?

It can be difficult for those of us who can't fit neatly into some precut cardboard cutout category --

I have never gone by how someone should tell me how I should look, and my daughter never did either.Besides I'm just a jean and tee shirt type of woman anyway.Sure u can dress me up and take me out.But even then I'm just me.If noone likes it then they just don't have to be with me.

They also talk to much about weight these days too.To fat,to skinny.Whatever a person feels right for them is the way that they should be.As long as they are healthy.Just don't let the media tell u how u should be.

the media representation of beauty is artificial, photoshopped and unattainable in reality

I always post this video on threads like this so here it is again.

sponsored by the Dove (soap) campaign for real beauty. A program for young girls to help them be comfortable with their own body image and not those portrayed in the media

I'm not so worried about this. We all grew up with the same pressures. Popular vs non-popular, the in crowd vs the freaks. Everyone develops their own sense of self and I have faith with a strong role model my kids as well.

Communication and a sense of humor about it are the key.

Maybe this is why many, or most of us minglers, may be alone. I know of one female mingler who seems to have created her own romantic, flesh-and-blood action figure, and if there's even the slightest variation in someone she may meet on mingle2, she sends him on down the road.

Advertising brain-washes both women AND men! What to LOOK LIKE, and WHAT TO LOOK FOR in our significant other!
Gimme a woman who cracks jokes all day, is maybe a little brash, but a sweetheart. She's not a supermodel, but does light up a room with her personality.

Media influence is here.

As anyone of you ever notice that the more we study relations, have articles on how to find a partner, keep a partner, be happy with your partner, analyze this and that the more and more people do not stay in their relation long simply because they keep on reading that there is something better somewhere else, that even if your happy if you look deep down in your life they will find a way to make you think your not happy.

Nothing is perfect nobody is perfect and by making us look at everything we always find that imperfection in our relations, our life, our partner and our selves and we end up alone.

If you keep looking for the wrong you will find it.

What a great answer. It almost seems like we're constantly being told that nothing is good enough anymore. When will the search for perfection ever end? Never, 'cause it doesn't exist!
