The dog who held the record as the world's oldest has died at 21 years old, her owners have said.

Chanel was walked daily, her owners said, but also had unhealthy habits.

She enjoyed butter sticks and chocolate - usually feared to be toxic to dogs - Mrs Shaughnessy said.

"She once ate an entire bag of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and, you see, she lived to be 21, so go figure," Mrs Shaughnessy told Associated Press.

I think that maybe each dog is different.

My Aunt's dog ate a chocolate bar and the dog got severe diarrhea.

I found this on the Animal Poison Control Site:

Chocolate, Coffee, Caffeine

These products all contain substances called methylxanthines, which are found in cacao seeds, the fruit of the plant used to make coffee and in the nuts of an extract used in some sodas. When ingested by pets, methylxanthines can cause vomiting and diarrhea, panting, excessive thirst and urination, hyperactivity, abnormal heart rhythm, tremors, seizures and even death. Note that darker chocolate is more dangerous than milk chocolate. White chocolate has the lowest level of methylxanthines, while baking chocolate contains the highest.

The size of the dog and the age of the dog matters too.

I wouldnt give chocolate to my dog no matter what, simply because it gives them diarrhea. Chocolate is a natural laxative.

Yes...anyone who intentionally gives their pet something that they've been warned about...whether the pet has a reaction or not...is using poor judgment in the very least...or just plain stupid at the worst...whoa

I agree!! Why play with fire? would U give your child a loaded gun and hope he or she doesnt pull the trigger? doesnt make much sense to me if U love your animal!!

My vet ,well cliffys vet said as long as he tolorates it just a little kissy every once in a while is ok

Cause the first time I saw him eat it I rushed him right over there cause I was told he could die
I became a basket case cause he's so little

She laughed at me. Said some dogs can eat it so he gets a little kissy every now and then. I mean who would load their puppy up on choco on purpose? LOL

When he saw he could lick the kissy and get cherry inside?
He was in heaven!!!

Always in moderation

$100.00 to learn that. Go figure!

My vet told me dark chocolate is Ok for dogs in small quantities but milk chocolate can be very bad, but it is based on size. My beagle ate a milk chocolate candy bar and was fine except for his bowels for the next 3 days.
