The dog who held the record as the world's oldest has died at 21 years old, her owners have said.

Chanel was walked daily, her owners said, but also had unhealthy habits.

She enjoyed butter sticks and chocolate - usually feared to be toxic to dogs - Mrs Shaughnessy said.

"She once ate an entire bag of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and, you see, she lived to be 21, so go figure," Mrs Shaughnessy told Associated Press.

My understanding of this is that their liver cannot process it properly so it builds in them over time. My dog got ahold of some chocolate too but did not have any adverse effects but in time she may have if I kept letting her have it.

It can also cause seizures in dogs. I wouldn't give it to mine!

they just cannot eat pure choclate that will kill them VERY quick!!

Yes...anyone who intentionally gives their pet something that they've been warned about...whether the pet has a reaction or not...is using poor judgment in the very least...or just plain stupid at the worst...whoa

Hey T, my Sophie is at her groomer today. She loves to go! Especially the anal gland expressing part. She tells me it just makes her month! laugh

Used to make my day, several times a day when I worked in the pet industry...holy cow! That was 20yrs of anal squeezin', biting, & pooping... I worked very closely with a COMPETENT vet...he gave me LOTS of pointers! laugh

I had dogs that couldn't wait to be groomed...one used to bite his mother until she handed him over to me...could've been a bad chocolate reaction... laugh
