"Global warming" is currently among my favorite fallacious lines of argumentation. :) LOL!! I hope a lot of global warming folks come to this thread. They give me the giggles!

Earths environment has ALWAYS been in flux. We are in the warming trend. Global Warming is a lie. Change is the only constant!

Does global warming exist and should be concerned about it? I believe it exists. And yes, we should be concerned about it if we value our spaceship Earth. If our 'sheilds' go down we're dead. ![]() If so, what do you really think is the cause of it? I'm not sure. Clearly our air-polution and destruction of forests and habit isn't helping matters. Whether we're the direct cause of global warming or not is irrelevent from my point of view. The real question is whether or not we, as a species, can actually do anything about it. I tend to agree with the scientists who are suggesting that we can. If we look at how the atmosphere became what it is today I think we can see just how delicate it truly is. It's possible that we could terriform planet Earth into a stable environment again. The question is, "As a species will we even try?" Clearly we're not going to do it if we have very many hecklers like heavenlyboy who would rather just giggle and laugh at the very idea. All we have to do is look around at the world's societies today and it should be obvious that the vast majority of humans on this planet are far too selfish or unconcerned to be of much help. I think as a species we're doomed. I'm not sure whether that even bothers me or not to be perfecly honest about it. I mean, if there is truth to spirituality then the physical life on Earth isn't truly sigificant anyway. On the other hand, if there's no truth to spirituality then it doesn't matter does it? We got here by accident, we'll dissappear by accident, and that will be that. I'm not sure if I see a problem either way. I'll just end by saying that if there's anything I can do to help I'd be willing to do it. Other than that I'm not sure what to say. |

Will we survive this 'flux?' I don't think my hairspray is causing it though. What about 6 billion cans of hair spray? And that assumes that every human on Earth only uses 1 can of hair spray each in their entire LIFE. ![]() How about 6 billion automobile exhaust pipes? How about 6 billion farts? ![]() Actually farts might be good for the biosphere. I dunno? But truly, you can't look at a single can of hair spray as seeming 'innocent'. I'm sure that a single can would indeed be innocent. But 6 billion "single cans" start to look like one HUGE CAN! And of course hair spray is just one example. What about insecticide sprays? Spray paint? Etc, etc, etc. Commercial Jet exhaust. Cruise ship exhaust, and so on and so forth? |

I don't think we can do anything about it. Even if we cleaned up the earth and stopped killing the rain forest, which is a good idea, I don't think we can stop the earth from global warming if it is caused by planetary changes and by the crossing over of our solar system to the other side of the galaxy which begins in 2012 and will last for many years.
What we could do is move underground into caves and underground cities, or build giant domes that protect us from the atmosphere (like the domes on the planet Venus) ![]() There are rumors of cities underground where people are living right now. I believe I know the location of some of them, but the entrances to them are very hidden. |

I don't quite understand how those things cause global warming, but I don't know much about that stuff. I will plead ignorant. I do believe that there are those who believe that living on the surface of the earth is a dangerous and toxic way of life. I do believe there are people living under ground and deep within the earth. |

Even if I found the entrance to one of the underground cities, they probably would not let me move in there now. I am past child baring age now. I was invited when I was 26 years old and I refused to go. It sounded suspicious to me and I was told that I could never return to the surface again if I did go. |

I don't think we can stop the earth from global warming if it is caused by planetary changes and by the crossing over of our solar system to the other side of the galaxy which begins in 2012 and will last for many years. There's absolutely no reason whatsoever why our position relative to the Galaxy as a whole should affect the climate on planet Earth. I don't think that is even remotely being considered as the cause. I think the greenhouse affect of the atmosphere is the most likely scientific explanation. My answer to these question are pretty simple. 1. Can humanity as a group effort do something to affect the climate of planet Earth? Based on what we know about our planet I would say - Possibly. 2. WILL humanity as a group effort do something to affect the climate of planet Earth? I seriously doubt it. We can't even agree on anything. How can we ever be expected to work together as a global group? Even if we take only those who actually BELIEVE that we can have an effect on the climate, we even have disagreement among those people of WHAT steps we should even take. So it's not just a matter of getting all humans on board, but they'd all need to be on board the same SHIP. And there's vast disagreements on that. So I don't see climate change as ever becoming anything more than just something for humans to argue about whilst they die from it. ![]() I'm afraid that I just don't have faith in humans. The vast majority of humans are Earth are quite comfortable believing that some God's son who had been nailed to a pole will come back to life and save them. Where are we at as a species? We're still monkeys as far as I can see. We're just arrogant monkeys is all. ![]() We're not anywhere nearly highly evolved enough to take on the kinds of global social intent and responsiblity that would be required to save an entire planet from something like a climate catastrophy. Just enjoy your own life until it's over. That's about all we can do. And all those people who believe in an intervening God who's coming back to pick this slaves and case the rest into a hell fire have nothing to worry about (unless they think they might be case into the hell fire!) I don't see where there's a problem at all. If the atheists are right and we're just an accident, then if the accident is over it's no big deal. If the patheists are right and we'll be reincarnated into another life after this one then the fate of the earth is irrelevant. If the people who believe in a 'rightesous and just God' are right, then a righteous and just God will save everyone who's righteous and just. So if a person is rigtheous and just they have nothing to worry about. I don't see a problem in any of these situations. Whatever will be will be. ![]() |

Global warming is real. The problem with the problem is that the problem is too complicated from an extremely large number of related problems (doublespeak intended).
The Earth has been in a warming trend but the Earth's records from ice cores, seafloor cores, etc., leave a very good trail of what has happened in the past. The warming effect of the blanket of co2 around the Earth is fairly easy to calculate from lab tests and the amount present is easy to measure. There is a debate constantly about how much global warming is natural and how much is caused by man. There is also a debate about how much effect the loss of rainforest affects the problem. There is no debate that the rainforest is a major removal system to convert co2 back into oxygen and biomass. As time marches on, more and more data is collected showing the major contributing factor to global warming is the billions of tons of co2 we are adding to the atmosphere and the loss of rain forest to absorb co2 and to absorb solar radiation. Some theories, such as sunspots and variation in solar activity have been completely disproven by measurements of the atmosphere above the layer of "greenhouse gas" not warming due to solar activity. It's funny that everyone knows that if you throw on an extra blanket you will be warmer. There is now a really thick blanket around the Earth that lets heat in, but doesn't let it out, just like a greenhouse; but they don't think this blanket (co2) has any significant effect on the the problem. |

answer...............................well but of-course it is. and will continue at an exponential rate. these people that say no, are the same lobbiests that are chopping down entire rainforests, virgin forests, and not re-planting, and on four continents. without these buffers and coolers, you do the math....be as sceptical as you like....no time, ever in history has there ever been an influence or an arrogance with super-denial, such as man......period, fact, non-disputable...period.
also, non-arguable. |

It's all in your mind....
there were no cars the last time this happened, no airplanes and a ton of rainforests... and yet it happened before... go figure... |

I don't want to be the one that brings up the conspiracy theory - no wait I do.
I'm not worried about global warming at all. I saw just the other day on some crackpot website, or maybe tv show, that the government is capable of controlling the weather now. Ahh thank the lucky stars, we are all saved do to massive government conspiracy. It seems that weather control can be had cheaply, and was used against us during hurricane Katrina. Our government has been fighting back!!! ![]() Apparently we've been testing our own counter weather equipment. Hence, no large storms have hit us since! (Don't you love these guys?!?!?) ![]() Alright, if we've got weather control, and heh, if we do thanks I've gotten the perfect amount of rain for the corn this year, then I'm sure we'll be able to stem off the tide of these unforseen emergencies that will stem from any possible global warming epidemic. We'll use our massive counter weather technology to make it hit Cuba or something. ![]() So as you can see problem solved. Now get back to dating, we're going to need to repopulate after the flood. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I knew the manmade global warming believers would come in and entertain me! Thanks!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() All global warming believers are manmade aren't they? Or at least woman-made. Or made as a result of copulation between a man and a woman. Or at the very least through artificial insemination. |

I knew the manmade global warming believers would come in and entertain me! Thanks!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I can dig up half a dozen peer reviewed papers that support AGW, do you have something useful to rebut those papers, or a paper that does? Just this week I read an article in Skeptical Inquirer that dealt with this issue of what is the scientific consensus. They highlighted how a group of ultra right wing conservative politicians backed by fossil fuel energy companies are spreading 100% of the mis-information. Does that mean that all global warming must then be man made, of course not, but it does mean that a lot of the confusion regarding the topic has been disseminated purposefully. We most certainly should take more time to ensure the research being done is as accurate as we can make it, but we also need to do our scientific community a service in not spreading information that is not backed up with hard data. So unless you have some hard data and want to discuss it, Id hope you would think twice before posting at all. |

Micheal Chrichton and a number of others have debunked this pseudo-science, but if you really need help, I'll dig up some stuff for you when I get a chance. P.S. Warming would ENHANCE speciation, not hinder it. Notice how greater speciation occurs in rain forests and other warm areas than in cool areas. |

Read 'State of Fear' by Crichton. It's fiction but has some interesting discussion about the issue, on all sides.
